A personal autobiography put together to aide in using the Enneagram for self-development rather than as a Type indicator. Too often students of the Enneagram box themselves and others into the confines of their individual Type. The greater purpose for the Enneagram is to live as a whole person through aligning the centers; head, heart and gut. If we can recognize our tensions and reactions we can release ourselves from them and gain compassion for ourselves and others.
Vinnie and I met Peter Thibado in 2011 when he sponsored a Spirit Expressing group of First Unity church members at his Tae Kwon Do studio. I don’t remember what book we were discussing, but after the six weeks were over he asked if we wanted to continue meeting to learn about the Enneagram. We learned about the nine Enneagram types of people, and it was a good exercise in communications and acceptance. Peter recently published his first book The Way of the Bold Ones, an exploration of Enneagram energies. It’s a short book at 88 pages, and contains nine chapters – each representing one of the Enneagram types. Instead of rehashing the different personality types, Peter tells stories from his own life which show the application of the Enneagram energies at different pivotal events. Each chapter ends with a physical exercise. I’m waiting for Vinnie to read the book so that we can do the exercises together. I admire Peter’s bravery and honesty in revealing personal painful experiences in the hopes of helping others. The book is a quick read and inspirational for those on a path of spiritual growth.
