Author Jolene Philo has written another fun tale, the sequel to her first Jane Newell, amateur/sleuth mystery. You'll find another murder, new characters, and more humor in this rural town of South Dakota filled with nosy, quirky townspeople. The author does a good job of developing her colorful characters, and she creates a suspenseful story, along with a little romance and an unexpected ending. She captures well the flavor of this small, rural town of 92 people and pulls the reader in to follow them in this second book. Christmas adds a sweet ingredient to the growing love between the school kids and their young, determined teacher. And Jane Newell is developing a reputation for more than school teaching, especially as her amateur sleuthing keeps her in the middle of danger repeatedly.

Single young teacher Jane Newell prepares her seven students for a Christmas program with the other grade-school teacher in Little Missouri, SD. A whole cast of townspeople look out for Miss Newell, suggesting suitors for her, as she tries to help solve a murder mystery. A boy from a nearby ranch for troubled youth was killed and clues seemed to show up where she would find them. Having been interested in forensics initially, she got herself involved. What predicaments she ended up in, but the perpetrator was arrested, the Christmas program was a success, and Miss Newell heads for Christmas in Iowa with her parents, driving her VW Beetle. A delightful romp, with a recipe at the end.

Better than the first book
this book is better than the first book in the series but isn't that usually the case? This book is funnier also. the Bible says to not gossip. Boy does this town gossip. the main character does not gossip but she does stick her nose in everywhere it isn't wanted to find out who the Killer is or who she thinks it is. The last portion of the book is the best part.

Easy read
So fun to read. I loved the characters and their individual personalities. The kids were delightful and their antics were truthfully described. I didn't figure out who the criminal was until the author wanted to reveal it. So I would say it was written with care. The plot was good without going into gory detail. No bad language, a little touch of romance, and a whole lot of wholesome humor.

Great story!
I really loved this book. Jane is a spunky, smart character. Her students and the rest of the townspeople were believable and charming. I enjoyed the humorous moments interwoven throughout the plot. The mystery was intriguing and I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. I hope to see more West River Mysteries in the future.

Jolene wrote a delightful sequel to See Jane Run! The quirky small town characters continued to charm their way into Jane’s heart. Introducing a few new faces, especially a potential boyfriend or two, created more depth to the storyline and caused even more gossip for the townsfolk. I’m certainly looking forward to reading See Jane Dance!

See Jane Sing!: A West River Mystery
I received this book as an Arc from the author and I’m writing a review because I want to. I loved this book! A school teacher becomes involved in a murder. It’s a small town with home spun ways. Highly recommended!

The Second Book is as Good as the First
This is an awesome story. The characters are well developed and likable, except for maybe one. Don't miss this series it's really entertaining and full of surprises. I'm now on to the next book in the series. Book Number three.
