You won't be bored and it's a short read light book, can be finished in the single go. The writing style is pretty simple and easy to read. I finished the book in no time as it's so short and well written.
The book is a fast paced story about three women coming from different parts of the nation, who meet each other through coincidence. Incidentally they discover something, and get together to uncover and fight it together. It also touches the issues with women empowerment at places, and shows how effectively one can overcome them.
What I like about this book: 🥂 The story is gripping, and fast paced, so it keeps the reader interested till the end. 🥂 Now this might not count, but I actually liked the placement of Acknowledgements part after the Prologue :D 🥂 The structure is well maintained, the characters are described beautifully, and a suspense is maintained throughout.
What could be improved: 🥂There are many loopholes and small mistakes throughout the storyline, which makes a reader lose a bit of interest going forward. 🥂 Some parts of the story were left unexplored, without a closure. 🥂 Personally, the ending was close to a disaster. It could have been a lot better if carefully thought through. Some parts in the ending leave the earlier parts of the story completely mismatched, and hence, a 2 star less than a 5 star story!
All in all, if the ending had been closely knit, this could've been one of the best reads of the month; a one time read nevertheless.
Lives of three women, Lavanya, Ishita and Gayatri, collide accidentally when they find themselves in right place at right time. What starts as a premonition takes unexpected turn when the women begin to discover something steely.
The author builds characters of three women in first few chapters, giving readers a glimpse of their lives, informing where they are coming from before entering into main plot. It acts as an advantage for sure. Special mention for advocating single unmarried woman adopting a child. The final plot twist is sadly something that's happening in our current society. Glad that it was addressed.
Story is fast paced but fails to instil inquisitiveness that is required for an investigative thriller.
Narration style is good for a debut. Well structured and formatted. Title and cover suits the story brilliantly. Book was a quick and easy read.
"The Shield Maidens" is one of a kind novel that I've read so far. Simply and beautifully written. It's the story of three women who belong to totally different background and got their name in a magazine because of something courageous they did. Lavanya, Gayatri and Ishita played the lead role and reflects the characteristics of Love, innocence, courage and determination. They are beautifully portrayed by the author.
After reading the novel, I just felt the novel was fast-moving. Things could be slowed down and the description could have given more drama. Throughout the read, I didn't feel bored but the only thing was it ended soon. Moreover, the plots that could have been more interesting just went normal.
If you think that the title of this books excites you then I won't stop you because in the end story has totally done justice with its title.
This book is basically about women empowerment. The three women mentioned here are very different to each other but each one of them is unique in their own way. Despite knowing knowing one another, they have a common thread that is strong will power and leadership qualities to change for the better. The life of those three women and how they set examples is what one must definitely read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The characters are extremely well sketched. And I liked the dramatic effect of the cover too.
Lavanya is a jewelry designer by profession from the quaint Dehradun who is in her early twenties but takes the bold decision to adopt a toddler Arshi much to the resentment of her own family members. For Lavanya, Arshi is more than her own biological child and loves her with all her heart. Gayatri shifts to Hyderabad to stay with her friend Richa and pursue further studies; what sets Gayatri apart is her gift to sense things before they happen, her ability to see and communicate with spirits and troubled souls. Gayatri does not think twice before using this special gift to help people around her and sometimes even the invisible ones.
Ishita is happily married into an affluent family and is committed to taking care of her husband and now extended family; Ishita holds a black belt in Karate and teaches women martial arts and defense techniques, for a long time without knowledge of her husband. One fine day, a popular magazine features these three women on their cover Lavanya for adopting a baby girl, Gayatri for saving kids using her six sense, Ishita for empowering the local woman in self-defense. Where will life take these three women after getting featured together and what fate awaits these strangers forms the rest of the story.
Though the blurb hints at story revolving around three-woman, actual story takes some time to establish their respective stories, and the reasons behind each of them getting featured on a magazine. The author takes care to weave a distinct story for each of them to make the further story interesting. Each of these women are special in their own ways and will be readily admired by the reader for their character traits, though Ishita gets lesser footage initially when compared to the other two.
The narration pace is swift without any boring or unwanted sequences, instantly drawing the reader into the story. From personal story of each of these girls, the story gets more interesting when it turns into a thriller. For a debut, the author does a decent job with an imaginative and distinct story. Pick this one if you like to explore different genres and newer story lines.
The world presently is with women who are equally capable like men, sometimes her sacrifices ,work ,dedication is lot more than man.And this book holds an inspiring message oriented story revolving around brave women lives.
The Shield Maidens is a simple story of three brave women from different walks of life. They lead a simple life just like common girls around but their lives inspire the readers to be that bold person. The plot revolves around small town girls namely Gayatri, Ishita and Lavanya. Each of them is not related and are from different places. They are brought together when a prominent magazine “The Women Today” features them as their cover. These girls are now a team “GIRLS gang” who are with a mission of social responsibility. In conclusion it is that again all of them unite for mission of another cause.
The book focuses on the evil of human trafficking, its cause, and effects and how these courageous girls stand against it and help the sufferers. The book not only is message oriented but also has love tale here and there.

Overall Comments:
I enjoyed reading this book, no part it is boring. Also it gave me an insight about the social evil. I recommend this book to everyone. Do give a read.
Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others.
This is the short story written by the author and it is truly about How strong a woman can be to fight with every situation in her life and if you want to know about what three common woman can do, You have to read this book.
The story is all about three common Girls who is totally unknown to each other. Their name is Gayatri, Ishita and Lavanya Three of them belongs to different places and live their life in different way.
Gayatri is the unique character in the book with Sixth Sense. She can sense the incidents before it happens, while Ishita is a common girl who teach Karate in a Karate school. Lavanya is also a common girl who adopt a girl after fight from court. She take care of hers like her own daughter. Her story of being a single mother and her ups and downs we're brought up in the magazine named "The women of Today" with stories of Gayatri who save a bus full of school children with her sixth sense and Ishita who teach karate to womens for Self Defense. Three of them meet in the Hotel Lalita Palace as circumstances bring them together to be warriors. The ending of the book is Unexpected. So, the story is truly about Girl powers and Women empowerment.
If you love to read about women empowerment You may grab this book....
Would definitely recommend this book to all of the readers.
The plot revolves around the theme of Women empowerment where the 3 girls, Lavanya, Gaytri, Ishita are fighting against the odds of the society.💪
Lavanya adopts a girl in her early twenties by fighting against her family and society and in exchange, she has to listen ‘sterile’, ‘lesbo’, ‘cohabitation’, ‘privileged’ but she doesn't give a damn about society's thinking.🙅♀️
The second girl, Gaytri who is blessed with the power of 6th senses and she uses the same for saving people around her. She solves a murder mystery, saves school children, and much more.🙌
Our third girl is Ishita who is a sweet and jovial soul but also a martial art expert and teaches students her art.💪👏
The three of them features in Top women magazine and crosses their path at Lalita place hotel for a noble cause and again helping someone. The three ladies form a team for Operation Red-Escape.’🤝🤜🤛
Will the girls be able to solve the mystery? . Well, the case takes a huge turn where the"Rakshak becomes Bhakshak", and we get to know that a big gang is working behind sex trafficking and human trafficking which later our girls find out.☹😕 .
How do those Brave Women get into this trap? Who was behind all this?🥺 . Well, this book is a power pack of Romance, love, women empowerment, crime & thriller. You can feel and experience all the emotions in just one book.🤯❤
The title of the book can't be more satisfying. It portrays the story itself and tells about out 'Sheild women warriors"💪 . So as the cover of the book perfectly goes with the story and shows the power of women and their will.🙌🙏
The story is about three girls namely Gayatri,Ishita and Lavanya. The story revolves around these characters.
Gayatri is a student and shifted to Hyderabad for further studies, she has a God gift to sense things before they happen, she can see and communicate with spirits. She helps everyone around with her great sixth sense. Lavanya is a jewellery designer by profession and in her twenties she decides to adopt a kid,and loves Arshi more than anything else. Ishita is married and is black belt in karate and teaches women martial arts and self defence techniques from a long time. These all three are specially equipped and work for a common cause that is to empower and protect women.
The book is a short read of 140 pages and is very interesting. The book is fast paced but still managed to describe each and every character in detail.
The cover of the book is very fancy and portrays three women which is appropriate according to the story line. Title is also a good one and It couldn't have been better than this. I personally will recommend this book to everyone out their. It is short, simple and interesting.
The personally liked the narration of the author it is simple and easy to read. You will not feel bored at any point reading the book. I personally think it has beautifully delivered the message that women are no less than men and every girl should take challenges and prove themselves.
Your face is the mirror of your state. What if, it is in case of book. I think, there is nothing to be amazed. Every story has a cover and every cover says a story. As the cover yelling, this book is totally based on women; form its title, picture and the color effect on cover as well. This is impressive that author puts a thought which is quite common these days but telling. Though both the story & thought behind the book and scintillating, yet common name is not of a good savour to all kind of readers. For example: Name of book, "The Shield Maidens". When you search with this name, there are a manifold of this title (Movie, Books and all). Plausible subjects are the fictional characters and their personality. It seems it could only be in fiction. This real world, this real society love to hear such stories but always find with sophistry. Well, Author did a great job at least she strives to empower women. Anyone can learn from here, only if, one wants to learn. The traits (Karate, Kindness & the sixth sense) of all three girls are praiseworthy. In short, it can be called that book is all about women empowerment, their determination and the strength to balance their chequered life.
The shield Maidens Author : Jhimli Parui Pages : 141
The story is a good one with excellent narration and I appreciate author for writing in that manner which made me to finding this book within one sit . Even after every chapter end there was some thing which Made me to go to next chapter without taking a break .
The story is about 3 Women , Ishitha , Gayathri and Lavanya . Lavanya has adopted a child and she became famous through that because she is not married and Ishitha became famous by teaching Martial arts to children and Gayatri has the power of sixth sense and using that power she have saved life of children in school bus .
The story starts by telling these events and how 3 of them meets together in hotel afterwards and story gets more interesting and if u want to know further you should read this book and I could assure you it will satisfy you.
The title of the book suits with the story line and this story has a good social message within and discussed about different kind of problem faced by girls like human trafficking . And this story has a good ending leading to a 2nd part and I am eagerly waiting for it . The language used is simple .
🎀Qotd: best thrillers from your loved author? Aotd: I have a lot to explore in this genre.
🏷The Sheild Maiden is a short but very interestingly interwoven stories which are part of the main story. The reader might get confused or lost in middle but it makes all sense at the end which is kinda satisfying as reading view but the stories are very bizarre they will keep you on the edge till the last moment when it combines & make a whole. . 🏷Book is very short while considering its content, that's making it harder for me to talk about the book without disclosing the plot. Book has way too much scope to explore stories more in detail. Which can expand the idea. . 🏷On Personal level, I found this as a simple and spicy read, which was very amusing in reading but just it's shortness kills your mood you know. I started reading this in a very distracting environment after reading the 4th chapter. I read about the author. It's that impacting... . 🏷I would recommend this book to thriller & suspense enthusiast to try out.
It is not even a couple of weeks since final month of the year started and it feels like I am brimming with books revolving around strong women characters. And unlike most other stories this doesn't have just one but three females whose life gets woven together by a matter of chance.
Gayatri, Ishita, Lavanya all hail from small towns but it's their temperament that keeps them ahead in their pursuit of perfection. They encounter each other coincidentally and how destiny plays a crucial role in shaping up their lives subsequently forms the crux of the story.
It's one of those rare books which seems to be written by two different people. It is outstanding in some aspects like the characterisation and plot progress but seems flat in others like the pace and the climax. There are moments in the tale when it fills me with rage and makes me emotional on seeing the sorry condition the way humans are being treated when trafficked. But the momentum somehow gets broken and the instances when it's obvious to feel heightening sentiments, it doesn't evoke much.
Nevertheless, a courageous attempt in penning a character driven plot
Yes! This is proof that women are far better in cooking up stories from whatever means of glimpses from their experiences that they encountered in their life or by sensing the pain of others by seeing the outside world. May be this is also one such sort. It's a light read and is really intriguing to know that it also highlights some dangerous social depravities. It's a story of three young women of different backgrounds get-together in a chase to unveil the social crime about human trafficking, involved by some top people from the community in the crime. Gayatri's sixth sense, Lavanya's bold endeavors, and Ishitha's karate skills and willpower in chasing the case to bring out the facts really exhibited girl power through there deeds. Last but not least it is not so engaging but never makes you bored and it is truly a light read, can be finished off in the single sitting.
TITLE: the shield maidens AUTHOR: Jhimli parui PUBLISHER: Invincible Publishers LANGUAGE: English Everyone has his or her karma to play for the betterment of the nation . some are born for a special role to play and to be a part of that role – play, you are into those circumstances by a fortune stroke of serendipity. This is the story of three girls Gayatri, Ishita and Lagaya who are unique in their own ways and are unknown to each other. They have their own unique personalities and are living in different cities but circumstances bring them together What happens when these three women with unique personalities meet each other???. This is an interesting read with lots of twists and turns, thrill, adventure and exploring social issues like human trafficking. Language is crisp and narration is smooth. The title is interesting. The cover is attractive. This is a short read. Characters are interesting. Recommended!!!
This book cover is very beautiful and gave us hint about story like related to three women. This book is a perfect example of women power and depicted that girls are not lesser then anyone. Story is about three independent and beautiful girls ,all are strong, bold and firm enough to break through the glass ceiling and stand up for what she firmly believed in—Herself. Lavanya is a single mother in just 25 years of age ,Gayatri is pursuing her studies and having some sixth sense and Ishita a married woman from different parts of India but how some karmic cycle that brought them together and they solved some big mystery case which you have to read in this book. Story is good and engaging, running very smoothly that's why it intrigues me and i finished in the one sitting. All three characters came out very well and the way author portrays conditions of women in various scenes it was very hard and painful for me but all these things exist in our society. Recommend this book to everyone.
The Shield Maidens by author Jhimli Parui is a unique refreshing and interesting read.
Plot is about three successful women named Lavanya,Gayatri and Ishita from different backgrounds, strangers to each other teaming up together for a noble cause. There is something special about each of them and all three are helpful in nature, contributing to society in their own ways. Know about each of them, their lives, their strengths, how they cross each others paths, what's the cause that they fight together, who are the bad guys and how justice is got, read to find answers to before and more by grabbing a copy of the book.
A good entertaining plot with lot of suspense and twists, keeping readers engrossed in the plot till the end. Narration is great and language is lucid. Was so much into the plot that I finished it in a single day.
Loved reading the plot and would recommend to all.
Let me first talk about the title, the cover and the blurb. The cover is gorgeous, the combination of pink and the three girls in different attires and in black just comes out very good to the eyes. But.. the title, cover and the blurb gave too much away in terms of the plot. There are three women on the cover and then there is blurb which even before I started reading made me guess that's it going to be about three women coming together for a cause. Well leaving aside this aspect.. when I read the book I quite liked the fact that there was a back story attached to each of the three girls. This helped me get a perspective about their lives and livilehoods. The ending was good not something I anticipated.
The book was kind of okay for me. The plot was good but it wasn't written that well. Maybe the message that the author tried to convey wasn't executed properly. I didn't find the prose up to the point. I personally prefer a bit of good hold on language and I feel it helps, get into the plot better. At points the story felt dragged on and the serious social issue of human trafficking was sadly overshadowed by a lot of descriptive writing about the characters'. But I loved the empowering personalities of the three leads, however different they maybe, they are strong and united together and hence they are called "The Shield Maidens". So the main takeaway is — good plot which could have been executed a bit better.
This is story of three girls who are unique in their own kind of way . Gayatri has sixth sense and can sense the incident before it happens. Ishita is living an ordinary life for world while she runs a karate school and is black belt in karate. Lagaya adopted a girl child after a long fight from court . They got featured on cover of a magazine. They met in a hotel and what happened next is really a roller coaster ride of thrill.
A unique concept and strong story with strong characterization. Narration is medium paced and keep us intrigued to know what will happen next. Language is easy to read and flawless.
The central theme is Human trafficking with a special emphasis on women empowerment.
Gayatri, Lavanya and Ishita, three strong-headed women are the central characters and backbone to the story. Gayatri has some psychic power, she foresees what is going happen. She along with her friends come to Delhi to attend an event. There she meets with Lavanya and Ishita. Gayatri sees some girls overdressed and hurt in and around the hotel. True to her nature, senses something wrong about them and foresees that she is here for a noble cause.
Gayatri, Lavanya and Ishita come together for a social cause, fight against human trafficking. How they do this makes for the rest of the story
The story stands out in its narration as well as its build-up. The lives of the three women and their stories are very well woven together to bring out the climax. The plot has quite some twists to keep you engaged. The language is also simple making the book an easy read. The narration is fast-paced, something which I really liked. Each character is developed beautifully and later on given ample space to grow. The storyline of the book points out the heinous nature of human trafficking and the presence of the devil under the disguise of respectable people - another thing that I liked about the book. Overall, I would surely recommend you to give this book a read.
This debut book by Jhimli Parui is a short and yet, a very engaging thriller that takes you on a roller-coaster journey across three cities. . The three women at the forefront of this book are Lavanya, Ishita, and Gayatri. . Each of these women are faced with life altering situations and as they deal with them, the book takes a perfect jibe at women empowerment and the absolute need for it. . I really liked the story. The cover, however looks a bit amateurish, and could have been better. Wold definitely recommend this book. . Final Rating - 4
The book narrative is very engaging. Not everything is hunky dory in the book which is the USP of the book. I really liked the conflicts between the three women. It bought life in their characters and personality. The ending is a bit predictable but I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. The book explores a dangerous and a very heated issue of Human Trafficking but the concept of Karma and Destiny plays out well in the book. It's light yet engaging and not in a superficial manner.
It is a story of fate where 3 girls of different backgrounds don't know about each other. But we are controlled by the situation in our life and these girls meet each other due to their circumstances. The book has amazing twist and turns. A short read with a great teaching. One of the good book I have read so far. Reader can easily complete it in a single sitting. Beautiful cover and perfect name. Vivid description and lucid language. Recommendations yes
After reading this book , I personally have an opinion that it is very important to speak up against all the wrongs we face or see nowadays in the outside world. The world is full of corruption, Voilence and trouble and anyone can be targeted . So it's time to stand up as a social responsibility. The story is a perfect read . I really loved reading it. The language is simple and lucid so that everyone can understand it.
The shield maidens by Jhimli Parui is all set to take your breathe away as well as it does have the sense of inflaming your social awareness. The plot is about three warriors or I can say ‘the women’. The story is about woman willpower, enthusiasm and the responsibility of an individual in a society I guess everyone must read it cuz this one’s amazing written with good morals and thoughts.
The story is basically about women empowerment and one of the trending social issue about human trafficking is well protrayed .I completely lost in the plot. Overall a awesome read with twist and turn
