Not a history so much as a great heap of historical information--poorly organized and written. The Foreword forewarns the reader of the opinionated claptrap to follow.

In his Epilogue, Bottorff--after crediing the Indian Code of Honor with movies like "Apocalpse Now" and "Star Wars"--asks, "So who learned from whom?" Then he suggests that Theodore Kaczynski and Timothy McVeigh may have learned to use savagery to express moral outrage from the Indians. (Perhaps they did, but nothing in the preceeding 500 pages supports such a provocative assertion. Bottorf is just shooting from the hip, as usual.)

Saved from being a single star by the wealth of original material preserved.
