Sometimes all you need is a second chance... The sunny weather and sandy beaches of Rescue Bay, Florida, are just what Olivia Linscott needs after leaving a bad relationship and a lousy job. Her late mother, a woman Olivia never knew, has left her an animal shelter that is as much of a shambles as Olivia's life. She just wants to retreat, rebuild, and rediscover herself. Then a skittish and wounded Golden Retriever leads Olivia to her cranky next-door neighbor's yard. Luke Winslow, a helicopter pilot with a painful secret, has lost his career and his purpose after a near-fatal crash that left him partially blind. Adrift and bitter, the last thing he wants is to get involved with anyone-or any dog. But neither one of them can resist the dog who needs some human intervention. In the process, Olivia and Luke might just find a way to heal and a reason to hope.
This story inexplicably had conversations between two people in the same paragraphs. The convention for hundreds of years has been to start a new paragraph each time the speaker changes. That way there is no confusion on who is speaking. But here, often the same paragraph contains several back-and-forth comments, and I got confused.
Other than this problem, this book deserves five stars. It has great characters, a compelling subplot, plenty of unexpected plot twists, and a sense of place. It is interesting enough to be on my read-again list. But this old proofreader and copyeditor cannot get past the parahraph issue.
This is the first book I've read but this author and it didn't disappoint. A well written, beautiful location, excellent description of characters and situations that had me laughing and brought a tear. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read what comes next. A sweet, pretty clean romance with an entertaining cast!
Sweet and Entertaining read of love and redemption. Olivia moves to Rescue Bay for a new chance at life, and answers, she finds much more with her neighbor, and local vet in town .I really enjoyed the characters especially the little elderly ladies at THE nursing home.
This book rings all the bells and whistles loud and clearly. It's got times you'll laugh out loud and times you'll need the tissues. There is so much in this book that I relate to in my life!!!!
