Informative overview of therapy techniques

Laden with numbers citing references listed at the end of the book, this is an overview of many different styles of therapy that can be used to help heal from trauma. It's not a workbook - exercises are described but you'll need to bring along your own journal to write and hold yourself accountable for daily work.

Techniques are described enough to work with them, or to explore more with different resources on your own. Descriptions are psychological, but still easily read and understood, as in this example:

"Regardless of the source of the fight, flight, or freeze, the reactions within the body are the same. Some common automatic reactions include rapid heart rate, shallow and labored breathing, sweating, intense emotions such as fear, and/or a tingling sensation in the extremities. Your brain is also releasing several brain chemicals, known as neurotransmitters, such as adrenaline, norepinephrine, and cortisol, which support your ability to run away or fight. Although this response comes from the least advanced part of the brain, it is still a complex reaction that impacts many different systems in the body. In a moment of danger, all of these responses are useful and adaptive to help ensure survival."
