Are you a Bird Like Me? by Noel Foy and Nicholas Roberto is a beautifully illustrated children's book with an incredible story!

I adore a book that is beautifully illustrated. What can I say? I'm a marketer at heart and we all love a good design when we see one. The cover alone is gorgeous, and please - judge. It's beautiful! It's engaging, it's fun, and it's exactly the kind of cover that is designed to grab attention. Shout out to Colleen Sgroi and their beautiful design! Clap and a half to them!

We follow a baby bird named Sky in this story. She started in her egg, all nice and warm, until one day she pecked her way out! From there, she has to learn her way in the world with her family and new friends. One day, she falls out of her nest and meets lots of new friends whom she asks - Are you a bird like me? She will learn all about diversity and different animals as she works to find her way back to her family's nest.

This is such an engaging story and I can easily see this being apart of a classroom or bedtime ritual. The story is inclusive, made to be read together, and can have educational tie ins if you don't want it to just be a great read! To me, that's the best kind of children's picture books!

My fave picture in this book, because I have to say it, is the squirrel walking. It's delightfully fun! But his name being Nutso... I want to laugh but I also want to cringe. But I think kids will love the name! Parents might playfully roll their eyes a bit.

And finally... the tag line of the book... "The sky's the limit!" I love it!

Five out of five stars!

I received this book for free from the published in exchange for an honest review.

The Review

When I was a child, one of my fondest memories with my mother was when we watched the Land Before Time together. This animated film showcases a group of young dinosaurs separated from their parents who must journey together to find them and build a special bond between them. It showcased the power of coming together as a group no matter what our differences may be. The author did a fantastic job capturing that same theme and emotion in this book. The heartwarming story of this young bird and the adventure they go on to discover a way of getting home hit all of the heartstrings and made for a brilliant reading experience.

The story was made so special because of the unique balance between the author’s positive and inspiring writing with warmth and thoughtfulness in the illustrations. The theme of group dynamics, cooperation, and embracing our differences in a collective environment made this both an educational and engaging story for children and parents alike, while the illustrations brought out the childlike wonder and entertainment that children will be drawn to in this narrative.

The Verdict

Emotionally driven, insightful, and joyful in its approach, authors Noel Foy and Nicholas Roberto’s “Are You A Bird Like Me?” is a must-read children’s book and beautifully illustrated by Colleen Sgroi. The heartfelt delivery of this story and the inspiring themes the author explores will give future generations a story that celebrates the uniqueness and joy of making friends with people outside of your own unique circle.

Discovering the "whole entire world" becomes a cute adventure with tons of heart and friendship pure.

When Sky was still in her egg, she was content and thought it was the entire world. Then, she hatched to discover that the world held a mother and father bird as well as a nest and plenty of twigs, branches and leaves. That was the entire world...until she fell out of the nest to discover so much more. Too much more, since she also had no idea how to go back to her beloved parents up on the top of the tree.

The wonderful characters and forming friendships radiate goodness throughout this read. It's a book, which warms the heart and puts a huge smile on the face. Sky is an adorable, baby bird, who believes the world is what she sees until it, suddenly, grows bigger. And it does that several times. Her innocence comes across nicely, and she embraces each new friend she meets. All of these characters portray kindness and carefree personalities, which will have young listeners wishing they could play with this bunch themselves.

The illustrations are done with love and let the positive scenes come across clearly and with the matching atmosphere. The text is a bit on the heavier side for picture books, making it an ideal read-aloud for story time or to be read along for those, who are more sure of their words. It's a read to snuggle up with and enjoy.
I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed meeting this group of friends.

Noel Foy & Nicholas Roberts have written a book just right for anyone starting a group project, showing how those with diverse talents can help with problem-solving, how acceptance of differences can be both fun and helpful, along with trying and trying again for success. Young Sky, a little bird that still can't fly believes that the whole world is its nest. However, when he falls out, he isn't sure what to do so sets out looking for his mother. Along the way, he meets a few new characters, asking "Are you a bird like me?" What happens after meeting a squirrel, a giraffe, and a butterfly is both funny and inspiring. Colleen Sgroi's illustrations of the animals' actions and emotions create feel-good pages along with a bit of tension. Will Sky ever get back to its nest and his parents?
