Azure Colony avoided the larger conflicts of the Omega War and Guild Wars, only to fall prey to rogue mercenaries. Now they’re rebuilding, but strange forces are at work. Mediocre
I was quite looking forward to the next installment in this story arc, so the disappointment is telling. Perhaps it was due to having inputs of three authors that made this book dreary, I can't tell. Usually these books get cleared off my bookshelf very fast, not so this time. It was a slog. The writing wasn't on par with other titles in the 4HU. Spoilers below.
Look, this whole Wrogle mystery started off really well, plenty of mystery and intrigue. But come on, this is going on far, far, far too long. This story is being dragged out book-by-book til when? Surely someone can put two and two together? The characters are written so poorly here it's not even funny. Their decision making is atrocious, things that are blatantly wrong they head straight into. Almost everyone can see the 'terrorist' attacks are fake - I mean you have how many Wrogul on board again? Let alone THREE Peacemakers - they do investigations don't they? Yet instead of even attempting to contact the Gatemaster or the "insurrectionists", they gallantly pledge fielty to the dodgy governer and head out all guns blazing. I would have been happy of Verne was killed, he was a douche of note in this book. Then suddenly the fighting stops in a second, everyone goes to hold hands and sing Kumbaya after such unnecessary losses. That whole battle was unnecessary drama that added nothing to the story. Even the main 'mystery' of the Wrogul that was supposed to be on the planet, is all but skimmed over. The fact that there's ruins/structures on the planet is completely forgotten. The super smart Wrogul don't bother about it.
Bull, of course, arrives late. Our 'heroes' lose two key players without even knowing it.
This story and mysteries just need to end. Pronto. It's one of the weakest thus far. There wasn't much suspense over the UFO's on Azure - any reader would have highly suspected who it was. Then, at the end there's yet ANOTHER mystery brought in - the little mysterious messaged. Very disappointed.

Dreck
Took three (3) to author this dreck. It’s as if all the bits and pieces from cuttings on the figurative story-factory floor were frantically sweep-up together in a spastic mishmash to create more Marxist-Maoist content to attack Faith and Family. No surprise as this is the 4HU franchise’s apparent business model.

Excellent.
The book jumps in lots of places, as there are two plot lines running parallel, but it gives us big hints about the Wrogul and about them being not what they seem...
Of course, having the book ending in a clffhanger made me grumble, but I am actually waiting for the next one.

10 lbs of ..... in a 5lb bag
I can't even follow whats going on..... tired maybe, more like
another multi storyline mish mosh of confusion and unnecessary detail.
Starting to really dislike this series.....

Keeping the characters' species clear is a problem, but the read is well worth it.
