“Although Lee invented a murder mystery for the novel, it also draws on historical facts of the construction of the dam as well as he realities of labor strikes and neighborhood destruction in Butte, Montana.”
Candice Chase, The Daily Inter Lake - November 25, 2008
“Local writer Patrick Lee’s latest novel, “Canyon Secret,” takes place in 1952 amid two of the most pivotal and tumultuous events in Montana’s the construction of he Hungry Horse Dam, and Butte as the labor movement pitted its workers against the industrial barons who controlled the city and so much of the state.”
The history was very interesting. Since I have lived in the area most of my life I recognized many of the businesses and locations mentioned. I have visited the same many times and camped on the reservoir. The story line was interesting as well.
I just came back from a wonderful vacation in the Glacier mtns and stayed in Hungry Horse so I had a special interest in this book. It was very enjoyable.
I liked it. The historical events were in line with the cities and venues included in the story. Because I am familiar with this area, I really enjoyed placing the characters in the towns.
