Apart from looking at the historical antecedents to these conflicts, the book also develops a theme that people's understanding of the past has been manipulated and distorted by other peoples and groups with specific agendas. Why, for example, is there such antipathy between the Modern West and Islam? How has the history of the English Monarchy been distorted to support the agendas of various kings? Where did democracy come from, and why are its flaws never acknowledged? This book attempts to answer these questions.
