The Blood is the Life: A Vampire Slaying Novel is the second book in The Immortal Dracula series by Scott Cook following The Dead Travel Fast. Like the last, the story is enthralling from the start. We begin in 1481 Instanbul, from the perspective of Mehmed II, the Sultan Emperor. It was interesting to see a historical character characterized in such a way—he’s called The Conqueror, but complains of foot aches and poor bedroom performance. He also speaks of great figures with familiarity, also noting how he has long passed their ages when they died. In response, he seeks the cure to life, vampirism. By Mehmed’s account, Vlad Drakulya is 5 years dead. His dramatic entrance holds for the rest of the story, and we slip into a dark, gothic thriller. I think the horror and gore is well-written, and it feels like a fresh take on Dracula rather than another retelling.
The Blood is the Life by Scott Cook is one of those stories I need on a cold winter afternoon, but sometimes, I needed to leave it till the next day because the night has come and the thriller leaves me on the edge of my seat. There are many aspects why I consider this a great book. First, I have to admit that the author's writing style is one of the best for thriller stories I have read in a long time. The language chosen and the descriptions are fantastic. They give the perfect frame for the plot to shine. I also like the historical aspects mentioned in the tale as well. In my opinion, they not only give it more realism to the story itself, but also teach a great deal of history. I will recommend this book to my friends because I believe they will like it as much as I did. Five starts for Scott and The Blood is the Life.
I was disappointed in the second installment of The Immortal Dracula sereis. Vlad was a strong decisive person/vampire in the first book but became this ineffectual, hapless vampire in the second book. He apparently lost all his strategic skills along with the strength to act decisively in a timely manner! I get that is an honorable soul but sometimes you have to step up to the plate and do what's right for the good of majority who are usually innocents. As for Veronica, I found the devolution of her character especially annoying. Again she was strong and decisive in the first book, however in the second book her main contribution was really bad Dracula jokes and almost constant sarcasm!! I have to say the twists at the end of the book will probably bring me back to read the third book but not for a while.
This is an electrifying story of vampires, armies of the dead, and a lot of scary things. As I started reading it, I felt I was watching one of those vampires against vampire slayers movies where there is an eternal fight to maintain the balance between good and evil. The book is so well-written and the descriptions of the scenes are so richly detailed that I really felt I could see the action developing in front of my eyes. I loved it. I enjoyed the fact that its protagonist is a strong woman who fights against different evils, discovering along the way the power of blood as a source of youth and eternal beauty. I recommend it to lovers of vampire stories. I cannot regret having read this fantastic novel.
This terrifying piece of work penned by Scott Cook is the second installment of a great series. I remember that as soon as I saw these books I thought -they are vampire stories with death and immortality, a repetitive drama- but I had fallen in love with the covers and I decided to read them anyway. I’m glad I did it!! Let me say that this author surprised me in the best way. I really enjoyed both books; however, this title is, without any doubt, much better than the first one. I had just rejoined Veronica’s story all over again. It’s a fast-paced full of mystery, and despite it’s long, a lot happened so it never bored me. The ending was epic. It literally gave me goose bumps. Seriously, “The Blood is the Life” is absolutely amazing, a great entertainment!
The Blood is the Life: A Vampire Slaying Novel is the second book in the series called “The immortal Dracula” by Scott Cook. I feel fascinated by the world of Dracula and vampires so I didn’t hesitate a moment to purchase this book. This dark tale is so entertaining that I wasn’t able to put it down; and it is not a short reading. I believe I read it in two or three nights. I was completely hooked by the story. Characters are perfectly portrayed and their own backstory is entertaining. I would definitely recommend this reading to those who enjoy vampire stories; it is not a regular one, but a story filled with elements that make it unputdownable.
“The blood is the Life” is an amazing vampire slaying novel treating the story of Vince, Veronika and their allies trying to fight the other side it being Van Helsing and his army, who grow voraciously and are trying to get into the community of potter's neck. If you are into brutality, murder, mystery, dark rituals and fairy tales of eternal beauty and youth, then this is the right novel for you. Vampires and other fantasy creatures will not fail to mesmerize you and take you on a journey full of crazy turning points and events. If you are looking for a fresh breath of air in shape of a book, then I would recommend to start reading this book now.
The Blood Is The Life: A Vampire Slaying Novel is the second book of The Immortal Dracula Series, the first saga I read when the Vampires appear to be the good guys! After defeating Van Helsing, Potter's Neck is a quiet place, but it won´t remain that way, since Van Helsing has regrouped his troops and he's ready to finish what he started.
I find Scott Cook's writing beautifully tetric and dark, which makes this novel absolutely destined to read at night time. The idea of blood and its power related to youth and rejuvenation is actually kind of true, as I read that many famous people doing blood transfusions to stop aging. Great work, can´t wait till the third book!
Scott W. Cook’s The Blood is the Life: A Vampire Slaying Novel (The Immortal Dracula series Book 2), is a fun vampire novel spanning centuries and continents. Detailing the battle between Van Helsing and Veronica and Vince as a series of ghoulish events shake Manasaqua County, the novel is full of infamous characters from history such as the bloodthirsty Countess of Bathory. Overall, I found the book to be a fun read which all lovers of vampire/dark fantasy will be sure to enjoy. Cook is a good storyteller and even though writing on a topic so heavily nuanced, he still manages to take a fresh and interesting take on the legends from history.
The Blood is the Life is the second life of The Immortal Dracula series by author Scott Cook, and a remarkable vampire slaying novel in the horror genre. It can be considered also as a great thriller, as the plot is exciting, gripping, and action-packed. I think this captivating and thrilling plot should keep readers on their toes the entire time of reading!
The characterization here is exceptional. Countess Elizabeth Báthory and Van Helsing are flawlessly rendered, while Vince and Veronica are multidimensional. It was done with both entertaining characters and an intricate plot.
All in all, I enjoyed this series and will be keen to read any more by this author.
Stories of vampires never get old. In this delicious second installment in the Inmortal Dracula series, Scott Cook exposes us to a bloody tale typical of a Dracula-kind of story. Whether a vampire addict or not, this collection is an on-point reading material. I have held on tight to my chair, or bed, reading this second entry focusing on each and every detail and the one that I highlight the most is the fact that the book is set in 1481 and it’s loaded with historical events about the Ottoman Empire and about Princesses. I was absorbed in the dialogues, which, by the way, have been meticulously crafted and presented.
This book picked up where the first one left off. Again, we took off running from the first page and didn't stop until we skidded to a halt on the last page. I know that I want more and can't wait for the next one. I highly suggest reading these books in order, they will be much more enjoyable that way.
This book really sets up the characters and gets you to know who and what side they are on. It’s needed and was an enjoyable read but not as good as the first. Still- I continue to look forward to the next one in the series!
