I started to research a bit of the Keto diet and when the opportunity to read and review this box set came up I grabbed it. It took me a while to get through the whole thing as I would pick it up and put it down again. This had nothing to do with the books but more to do with my mind set and needing to take in and digest, as it were, the information included by the author. Some of my observations and thoughts about this box set is that there is a lot of information and it is a good initial resource for someone starting out or wanting to investigate the Keto diet. What I did get a lot of was more indepth knowledge on the two subjects which is what I was expecting more of. The lack of recipes was a bit perplexing as in other books like this when meal suggestions are made the recipes are included. Additionally it seemed to me at times that the writing and details were a bit all over the place with opposite points being made more than one and there are some proofreading issues. Overall this was an okay set of books.
I received a copy of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Somewhat superficial. This is a lengthy 2-book set. To begin with the Ketogenic diet and Intermittent Fasting, followed by Water fasting and Autophagy. The author gives some recipes, which are not detailed enough for a novice cook to reproduce. As a general idea for what to eat though, it is OK. I know people who have lost quite a lot of weight with Intermittent Fasting, the 5/2 regime and the book mentions different ways to achieve Intermittent Fasting. The term Autophagy (the consumption of the body’s own tissue as a metabolic process occurring in starvation and in certain diseases, according to the dictionary) is not well defined in the book although some general ideas are introduced but not in my opinion relevant to the average person. The idea of Water fasting, to achieve Autophagy, is not without its dangers. As the book describes, prolonged Keto dieting can produce so much ketones in the body that the kidneys produce a larger than normal amount of urine to get rid of it. This leads to loss of electrolytes and dehydration. However the advice of consuming large amounts of water to combat dehydration would further dilute the electrolyte stores which can have dangerous consequences. The advice of water dieting for anywhere between 1-3 days I don’t think came from a physician. Cooking may be an art but nutrition is most definitely a science! I wouldn’t recommend anybody to try either the Keto, Intermittent Fasting and particularly not Water fasting to achieve Autophagy without the express advice and supervision of a trained physician. I say physician rather than a nutritionist because those people who need to lose a larger amount of their body weight may have underlying medical conditions such as metabolic syndrome, Type 2 diabetes, hormonal imbalance, heart problems etc. A healthy young person’s body response to fasting maybe different to what an older person with medical conditions would experience. Whereas I welcome information books that educate, I feel that anything that doesn’t give the reader an appreciation of the dangers of following a regime should not be viewed as authoritative. Nutritional health, vs. weight loss vs. health are not sides of a dice. I am not impressed by a chiropractor who can help with fasting for example, show me a lorry driver on a water fast after 3 days and I would most definitely want to avoid his route. For me this book is not critical enough and in parts was rather superficial.

I requested to read this book. I really wanted to learn more about the Keto Diet. Especially after a webinar on Carb and Keto diet.
I really do not like leaving an unhappy review. However, I had numerous problems with this set.
I felt like a was reading an introduction from a research paper. If my professor had ever given me this, I would have asked why giving such a poor paper. Secondly, this book is a bit beyond a non science or lay person ability to read. I even had a friend with no science background or knowledge read an excerpt and she could not understand it. Too technical for John or Jontha Q Public.
Shame on the authors and proofreaders for letting such a product out. I think I receive a Beta version and not an ARC of book ( I also understand that conversion from one file to another can mess up a book but...): I had a request to review the book in the middle of a chapter in the middle of book one. The TOC was messed up, had two chapter 7. The formatting was so bad that I would have a sentence cutoff and start a new paragraph; made it very hard to follow a thought or concept. There was NO info regarding the authors. I even check the Amazon page for them: nothing. The citing of their references was poorly done, couldn't follow it. Also why I felt I was reading an introduction of a research paper. The amazon page for the book says 216 pages, mine was longer. Statements made but not clarified very well. I am educated and made note to ask what. This is just some of my issues. Made it very difficult to read and get anything out of the book.
If the authors would like to send me another properly edited and proof read set, I would be happy to read it and possibly amend my review in the next year.
This my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
This is a 2-book set and quite lengthy - with the 1st book containing 8 chapters and the 2nd book with 10 chapters. It has everything that the beginner would want to know about the Ketogenic diet and Intermittent fasting. I think the only thing missing are samples of recipes. I am doing IF for some time and it's great that this book also touched on Water fasting, Autophagy, and Keto. It also combines Keto diet with Intermittent fasting - which is uncommon to other books. So, this section is very much appreciated. If you are about to start on IF and Keto, this might be the book for you. For those with advanced knowledge of these subjects, choosing other titles will do you more good.

THIS SET OF 2-IN-1 ARE AN INTERESTING READ. I HAVE YET TO DISCOVER IF THEY ARE AFFECTIVE BUT THEY BRING A POSITIVITY TO DIET AND FASTING. IF YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN HEALTHY EATING OR WEIGHT LOSS THEN I SUGGEST YOU GRAB THESE BOOKS !!!

The book needs to be proof read again and the referenced meals ideas don't have the recipes or links to where to find the recipes. There is a lot of good info, but the overall two books still need some work.
