USA Today and International Bestselling authors J.A. Culican and H.M Gooden presents a new epic fantasy adventure full of dragons, magic, and legends.
Knowledge could be the one thing that saves them all, or destroys them.
Rhin now knows that there are objects hidden throughout the world that will somehow help them save Lynia. She doesn’t know what all of them are, and the Library is playing coy, only revealing parts of the information. It’s as if the Library is testing her.
With the Soul Goblet in hand, she now has to locate the Heart Stone, but there are enemies everywhere, including inside the Library itself.
The deserts of the Northern Territories provide a whole wealth of new dangers as the clues the Library provided unravel, leading them to dangerous locations where they’re surrounded by people who want to use them or kill them or both.
Rhin must find the Heart Stone before the agents of Dag’draath do. Or the world might become the nightmare they’ve always feared.

This is book eight in the Legends of the Fallen series and continues Rhin’s adventures searching for clues from the library to stop Dag’draath from coming to wreak havoc upon her world. In the last book she and her friends managed to find the Soul Goblet and in this one, she has to keep that artefact safe, while still searching for yet another relic. This time the library has pointed her to a Heart Stone, which must be recovered as part of the spell to keep their world safe from Dag’draath. She has her faithful companions with her, Gwen and her wolves, Sel and Will, as well as assistance from Captain Baeley and her crew of the airship, which help them to travel great distances easily.
The library of Abrecem Secer is the sort of place you might compare to Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books, as nothing is quite what is seems and the plainest of items could be hiding the biggest of secrets. Rhin has been made a Librarian, by the Library itself and can now access all areas, much to the annoyance of the Head Librarian. She can access any areas the Library believes she needs to for her quest and even locks others out of places she has been, which is hilarious! Her studious nature certainly gels well with the library, but it also links her to other skills as well, such as fighting methods, completely unknown to her.
Having only recently left the airship, they find themselves going back to the captain and asking for passage to the Northern Territories, a place no-one goes as it is so deserted, hostile and dangerous. No airship can fly there, as the magical component in the airships that help them to fly don’t work there, but no-one knows why. The captain agrees to take them to the closest mountains, as close as she can, but that nearly ends up with a disastrous landing. The group set off, but are soon captured by natives of the Territories and taken prisoner.
Here, they meet a young woman who says she can help them get out, so long as they take her with them. She knows the desert and the location of the temple they are seeking, but she has entranced both Will and Sel, who now hang off her every word. Rhin is suspicious of her reasons for leaving and more so, when a different being comes to the fore at night, talking of a person long thought dead. Even Gwen has taken this young woman’s side and Rhin is left alone to doubt placing any trust in her. There is possibly a betrayer in their midst and she seems to be the only one that is aware of it. Her librarian’s key, which she hides under her clothing, hanging from her neck, changes temperature, which she realises is a warning of good or bad things to come.
There is also a new romance between some of the characters, which is slightly unexpected, but really heart-warming to see. Due to some having little or no knowledge of appropriate feelings and normal responses, this could go sideways really quickly. A dangerous quest, with seemingly never ending pursuit of long forgotten relics, has now gotten personal and leads to more adventures for all. If they can’t recover the Heart Stone, will the ancient magic she is slowly learning, actually work and save their world? There is always more to come and I can’t wait for the next instalment in the series. I’ve loved everyone so far!
I would recommend reading this whole series to other readers. You get a sense of adventure, ancient artifacts, interesting characters and strange creatures and technology. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
The 8th book in the series Legends of the Fallen, and each book just gets better and more exciting. Rhin and her friends have managed to find the goblet about which she hardly knew anything, but the library of Abrecem Secer is leading her towards solving her quest. This library is sentient and must be every readers dream, it has provided them with a book in which to hide the goblet to keep it safe, but now Rhin is going in search of the Heart Stone and the trip is taking them to the desert in the far Northern Territories. She still travels with Gwen and her wolves, Will and Sel and they are taken as close to the desert as possible by their friend, Captain Baeley in her airship but as soon as they arrive they are captured by the people of the desert called the Oubliee and the story gets very tense and exciting. I also love that the relationship between Rhin and Gwen is finally taking a romantic twist which lightens the air a bit in this very powerful series. Can our group of young heroes get the Heart Stone when their path is paved with so much danger? They know they have to watch their backs as a betrayer is in their midst and will do anything to get to the heart stone before they do. Phew, on to the next book please!
Where oh where has the Heart Stone gone? This episode of Legends of the Fallen is about Rhin and company looking for the famed Heart Stone. First they must do some more research in the sentient Library of Abrecem Secer. This is an excellent twist to the story. They discovered that they needed to travel to the desert lands. The group gets to experience another hair raising ride on the airship. This was rather comical at times and serious at other times. Rhin and Gwen discover they want to be more than just friends on this trip. Following a rather quick landing in the desert, the group gets captured and end up in a holding cell. It is here that the group meets up with a woman named Nyalla who volunteered to be their savior and guide. But Rhin suspects something not quite right about Nyalla’s actions, especially when she displays a second personality that no one else sees. She takes them on a lot of trips here and there for no apparent reason while Rhin works out the mystery of Nyalla. Wonderful world building in this episode. I’ve traveled myself through the desert and knew exactly how uncomfortable living with gritty sand feels like. It is here that we the readers are left to wait for the next episode to find out what comes of all this mystery.
8th I’m the series and this is proving to be one of the best Fantasy series around. Best to start at the beginning but each book is a gem. Thoroughly recommended.
