EDITOR'S Mental health disaster is growing roots, having sprouted from today's socio-political meltdown. We typically blame it on politics. But our angst is actually fueled by fear response processes gone awry-within ourselves and others, both physically and mentally. I was wowed by this book - which doesn't happen very often. It's incredibly relevant, strikes the chord of what our society is struggling with AND provides practical solutions. A book that fills a need for the world of psychology, academia and every human being in our country today - while being an easy to understand and enjoyable read. 5 stars for sure!
Hughes has a beautiful writing style that intrigued me from the beginning! Had a hard time putting this book down. I really appreciated how it was easy to follow but also gave such insightful advice. It really allowed me to see the kinds of healing that I need in my own life and how we don’t have to deny ourselves of the healing process. Everyone should read this book!!
Such a joy to read this book! I found Hughes to be extremely relatable not only in the way that she writes but in the manner that she views life. Her writing style is easy-to-follow but still extremely impactful with the content she puts out. I'm definitely going to be recommending this to all my friends and family. I believe this is the kind of book that can change your life.
This book really surprised me! It made so much sense shedding light on the issues we are currently having in society AND it presented solutions - instead of just 'naming' the problem. I recommend it to anyone - I believe you will DEFINITELY take something positive and useful away from this read.
I used to blame myself for the state of stress I often feel, trying to manage everything going on in life. As I read through Laurel's examples, using her expertise, I realized my reaction is only human! I love that she gave tools to cope with this to lead a calmer life - instead of a reactive one.
The comparisons of the human reaction to disasters and how our modern world is constantly reacting to what seems like an eternal state of disaster were really eye opening. SO much of what she talks about, is all too familiar to me. Throughout this book I found comfort, calm and hope.
This book hit on so many experiences and areas of life that follow these patterns. It was insightful and uplifting. I see what is going on around me, more clearly, and I love that the author took time to outline tools for living above the state of our society.
