I'm so sorry but Corporate Nightmare just wasn't a hit for me. The first thing that stood out as a problem was the redundancy of this book. There were many instances where a paragraph ended with information that was repeated at the beginning of the next paragraph. Other times, Kate said or listened to something and then basically repeated the whole thing in her thoughts. Honestly, these things weren't terribly interesting the first time so it became irritating to read the same information over and over again.

Another problem I had with this book was all of the step-by-step descriptions. I know one of the golden rules of writing is show-don't-tell but a writer has to trust the intelligence of her readers. This book is intended for adults so it stands to reason that we know certain things like how to drive, for example. Why waste time describing EVERY SINGLE STEP involved from putting the key in the door to pulling out of the parking space?! I think that's unnecessary and insulting, to be frank. I had a similar reaction to the way the characters talked and thought. They seemed so immature and I never believed adults would talk to each other the way they did. It came across like children trying to play like grownups.

Also, there were times when I felt as though I was reading an employee handbook. Kate, who was supposed to be having thoughts about work, went into long, official-sounding descriptions of job titles or the work history of herself and other employees. I didn't find that enjoyable. It seemed so technical, like something a person would receive from human resources. I felt the same about the back story of characters that was often thrown in at odd times. I never felt like I was getting to know the characters the way one would expect to in a novel. It read more like an information dump.

I realize that what I've stated so far has more to do with my pet peeves and personal taste. However, I didn't think the writing itself was done well which is the main reason I gave Corporate Nightmare a one-star rating. It read more like a rough draft than a final copy. There was an overabundance of careless errors like missing words, too many words, misspelled words, and the wrong form of words that made it difficult for me to believe the book had been proofread and edited. There were also a great deal of run-on sentences as well as absent or misused punctuation. Unfortunately, there were just too many issues for me to enjoy this book or rate it any higher.

I was given a copy of Corporate Nightmare in exchange for an honest review. These are merely my opinions and are meant as explanation for why I didn't enjoy it as I'd hoped I would.

2.5 stars rounded up to three.

There were so many things that annoyed me about this story that on one hand I am struggling to give it 2 stars, yet on the other hand it had so much potential and was interesting enough that I want to read the next book, therefore I have rounded it up to 3 stars.

I am hoping the next book will make sense of a lot of what happened in this story. The actions of the character in the last few chapters, especially George, were totally unbelievable. Again I hope this will be explained in book two with some big reveal/twist.

It is a real shame the author put this book out for review before it had been properly edited. It is full of grammatical errors and redundant words. Past and present tense mix ups. Too much time spent on unnecessary descriptions. I didn't need details on how she washed her hair, twice one morning, and then didn't wash it the next morning because she washed it the day before.

Oh and it started to bug me how many times the main character lost track of time. It was another overused descriptor that got old.

Warning this story contains: Non/dub-consent, kidnap, and brutal anal sex. Speaking of such it irked me when .

I wish this author well, as despite my less than glowing review I do believe she has a lot of potential.

Received in exchange for an honest review....Revised Edition Sep. 2, 2014

This is a dark novel and contains anal play, group sex, kidnapping, rape, drugs and whipping.

Kate has worked up the corporate ladder with hard work and dedication. Respects and admires her boss Douglas. As she is reaching for the next mile stone in her career, Kate is given a warning by a reliable source though she's not quite sure how to take it. After doing some of her own investigation she finds herself being kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery by the one man she never would have expected.

The world as she knows it is torn and survival mode has kicked in. Not knowing her location or how much time is passed, she's confused by the feelings that are surfacing for her capture "Boss Man" who takes special interest in her. The day comes where her preparation for her new master has arrived. What she least expected has occurred and though she is greatful, new questions and realization sets in. Her new master is someone extremely close to her, beyond what she originally imagined.

Time passes, but "Boss Man" has not forgotten what he wants...

This book had a great story line, but the characters description was not portrayed if at all. I would have liked a full description of "Bull Whip Man" and "Boss Man". There is many unanswered questions and situations that needed some more explaining than just going through the motions. I hope book 2 provides a little more clarity. Great first novel by this author, worth a read if you enjoy a little darker erotica.

As I said before, this ARC was provided by the lovely author in exchange for an honest review, and here it is..

2 and 1/2 stars ('cause it has potential)..

So, this was not your every-day fluffy read.

This is hard core, dark material that's not for everyone! This book, also, has a somehow taboo-relationship. (well, at least almost taboo)..

It was an okay read, but I expected a bit more of it and expected to encounter a lot less of what I had encountered in it.

*****Spoiler Alert! Please don't read ahead if you don't want it to be ruined for you*****

I'm a fan of the "getting kidnapped" theme, but in this book - how this issue got tackled was a bit over. I mean, she got kidnapped, was treated in the most horrible way, and still she found it in herself to feel normal and have a normal relationship with her rescuer after she got rescued!

Also, she actually fell in love with the man who almost raised her! A man who was like a "father" to her! And the one who abused her in the most horrendous ways, actually fell in LOVE with her and let her go, after he kidnapped her and abused her the second time! Seriously! And again she came out almost unscathed from the whole thing; and I might add happily pregnant with her actual love's baby.

Furthermore, I usually love it when the guy uses endearments with his lady, but for some reason, his endearment to her, "bird", just didn't work for me. It actually irritated me :(

Plus, I have encountered quite a few errors/typos while I was reading and unfortunately, I found it distracting. Other than that, a few times, I found myself, again, a bit distracted trying to figure out why certain words/adjectives were used, as they seemed weird being used in such places.

Anyhow, it had potential and it kept me wanting to know more..

So, I hope that I get the chance to know how the story of Richard and Kate ends.

I received a PDF version of Corporate Nightmare in exchange for an honest review.

Well, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't spectacular either. It has potential, it just needs to be worked on more. There's a lot of spelling and grammar errors that also need fixing. I didn't really feel connected to the characters that much and I think it's because I felt like they didn't really have a lot of depth to them, so it was just kinda hard to connect to them and like them. The writing also gets repetitive after a while. A lot of it could have been cut. It's kind of unnecessary writing about something and then have the character think it a few sentences later. That's all that really popped out to me and bothered me. I'm sorry I didn't have a lot more to say about it, but I hope this helps.

ARC in exchange for an honest review. I like Richard, I like Kate. I liked the style of writing and while yes some of the scenes were brutal, I understand why it had to be done. It did get a bit repetitive in the short amount of writing but it's the way the plot is, so I accept that. I will definitely be reading the second book because I have to know what happens after a cliff hanger like that. I have some ideas about what is going to happen but only time will tell if my predictions are correct.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I honestly could not enjoy the story. It is badly in need of a serious editor. The sentence structures were awkward and poorly contrived. The dialogue was stilted and unnatural. There was a huge amount of repetitiveness and odd step by step descriptions. Grammar and punctuation errors, changing tenses took away the enjoyment of the story line. It was like reading the very first draft that someone hurried through.

There is a lot that goes on in this book, but I liked it a lot! It kept me interested through out the whole book and kept me questioning what was going to happen next. Kate gets put through a lot.. I didn't want to put any spoilers so I will just say she is one tough cookie!! I defiantly want to read the 2nd one and I hope for HEA for Kate and Richard!!

This is a updated review after re-reading a new version of this story as given to me by the author.

I received this in exchange for an honest review.

Kate has climbed the corporate ladder at the company that took her straight out of school.

She has just closed a huge deal and wants the lead for the future but after an encounter with her ex boss and previous company co-owner Richard, she is warned of corruption and illegal activity.

Choosing to ignore Richard's attempt to save her she is thrown into her own corporate nightmare. After being found snooping around to get information to Richard, she is drugged by her boss and the one person she thought was her friend, kidnapped, beaten and raped by a group of men preparing her for a new master because she knew to much.

With her time spent in a dungeon along with other sex slaves, Kate is subjected to months of inhumane treatment which can only be described as scary and disturbing! As she is prepared for her new master as his personal sex slave she spends time with "Boss Man" aka Gregor who not only allows her to be shared around with his "business associates" but bathes her and treats like his own, until she returns to real life with a new master but it is not as it seems and certainly not what she thought.

With a new master and new life Kate discovers that her life as she knew it is all a lie the the people she worked for are just the same as her father who died years earlier. She has believed all her life that her parents were killed in a car accident and she was left an orphan with inheritance that covered her boarding school and college fees. It is not until she is rescued by Richard that more of her life story is broken down for her and when she finds out that her father was not the man she thought he was and her childhood friend RJ, is no longer a past memory but someone who will now play a much greater role in her life.

I did love Kate and Richards characters so I think I will definitely read the next book. Although there is a lot happening in this book and can sometimes be a little graphic, the story made me want to keep reading.

this was a good 1st attempt for this author and I think with time will become quite a good writer. I am glad I had the opportunity to re-read the updated copy of this story.

*do not read this book if you are not comfortable with RAPE, anal play (like... a lot), group sex and whipping.*
**ARC provided by the author for an honest review!**
4 NO-SIR STARS!

I felt like the characters could have been developed more, though, this book really has potential. (I enjoyed it a lot!)

KATE & RICHARD

You know that saying, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t?
This book really describes the saying "curiosity killed the cat." Kate is given a promotion and she refuses to give it up after working extremely hard for it. However, little did she know the true face of the company and its boss, Douglas. Richard, ex-partner of Douglas warns Kate of the dangers, however, she decides to figure it out herself. As she digs deeper, the danger of her life also increases. Then, on one fateful night, she is sold to the sex slave industry. There she is thoroughly prepared for the new master who bought her. Everyday she is beat, tied, and her ass thoroughly marked. Before Kate thinks that things could get worse, she meets the boss. He cares for her which confuses and terrifies Kate due to the horrific experiences she went through.
Who is the new master and what will Boss Man do when his precious pet is gone?

I was given this book by the author for an honest review......

I enjoyed the storyline. The story needs to be longer. More meat to the story. More character development is needed. From the rescue to the I love you's between Kate and Richard felt rushed. Her mental status during and after the kidnappings seemed detached, had the feeling a third party was giving a descriptive run down of the events. The sex scenes during Kate's captivity were good, plausible. Decent sick twist a dark read needs. I felt a lack of connection during her mental/ emotional/ physical struggle of the depravity she endures. There also was a missing emotional struggle during her first sexual encounter with Richard. Just like the I love you's it felt rushed. It seems to me if she enjoyed the things Boss Man/Gregor had done to her, Kate would want/need some of that during sex or at least have a difficult time with enjoying that type of sex to the romantic soft sex, at first any way. I'm hoping the isn't another abduction of poor Kate, it seems to be repetitive at this point. There still are a few editing errors. I'm not bothered by it but I know people like to rip authors a new for that stuff. In my opinion the author has great potential. Can't wait to read the second book.

I received a ARC from the author for my honest opinion on this book
I gave it a 4 but lean more to 4.5

Ok, let me be honest the beginning was a little slow for me, but once things heat up and get going, it doesn't stop till the end. Great dark read with lots of twist and turns, I really enjoyed the characters in this book, Kate is very strong and has to endure losing all her family at a young age which makes her less trusting and closed off. Her journey is a difficult one with lots surprises, bad and good.
Gregor is confusing to Kate as he can be nice to her one minute and then cruel the next. But she will take what she can get to endure her capture.
Richard has secrets he is keeping from Kate but he seems to always come to her rescue, like her knight in shining armor.
Can't wait to read more to find out what happens to Kate and Richard.

Again overall a really good dark read, great writing, I look forward to reading more from Marlo

I received an ARC from the author for my honest opinion
while I gave the book a 4 I lean more toward a 4.5
If you like darker books that keep you on the edge of your seat then you need to read this one. its filled from beginning to end with kidnappings, drama, not knowing who to trust. and on top of it all a love story.

Wow part 2 of this book is just filled with twist and turns, poor Kate can not catch a break, she has had to endure more than anyone should have to. It's bad enough to be kidnapped and sold as a sex slave once but to have it happen again. I like that her character while strong also deals with the fall out of what she has been through.
Richard is there for her every step of the way as they try and make a life for themselves among all the secrets and bad people who want Kate out of the way.
Great story and I can't wait to read about more of the characters in this story.

The book is not really a romance or erotic. The characters are poorly developed and unbelievable (would Boss Man all of a sudden find a conscience?), the plot line and events are weak...(how many times can 1 lady be kidnapped?), and the grammatical and spelling mistakes are overwhelming.

I have a great deal of erotica and contemporary romance books but gang rape and sex slaves are NOT my cup of tea. Maybe that needs it's own genre. It really did turn me off to the book as a whole.

I think if the author simply worked on the story line of Kate and Richard, that would be a story worth reading.

While kidnapping/slave trade/human trafficking is not my thing, the story here is worth a read. Strong minded/willed Kate moves her way up the ladder to land the perfect account only to discover all is not what it seems. The story is told from Kate's POV, but also a narrator steps in and fills in the gaps.

This was a quick 3 hour read with a cliff hanger. It will be interesting to see how the story progresses in the next book.

**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review some like it hot goodreads.com.**

If I’m being honest I found this book quite difficult to read simply due to the content but in the authors defence it does clearly state all these things in a warning; I guess I just didn’t know what to expect. Once you can get past all those things I actually found the love story very enjoyable and gripping to the end.

The main character is Kate; she is a very career centred person at the start of the book, trying very hard to make sure she is the person to win and run an account for the company works for with a very big client. After this she is approached by a man who warns her about her boss and the company she secures the deal with; what he warns her of soon comes to pass when she is drugged and sent to somebody who is to train her for the sex trade before she is sold to her owner. The content during her training is very explicit and quite difficult to read however it is important to Kate’s story that we know these things as it adds a tremendous amount to her character. I loved the resilient nature of Kate’s character and that she constantly fights for her life as well as her freedom. I also liked that it is possible in a book like this for the character to get a happy ending, even if we do have to wait until the very last minute to learn it.

The only secondary character I feel noteworthy in this book is Richard; he is the man who warns Kate at the start of the book as well as her saviour. It turns out that he has a connection with Kate that spans from before the incident in question but to her childhood. I liked Richard who is seen to be a calming and stable influence in Kate’s life throughout this book.

The pacing was good and I felt it was very well written in terms of making sure readers were kept hoping for this happy ending until the very end. That and there was a very real threat of Kate’s happiness being stolen away from her at any given minute.

The storyline was original and unlike anything I have ever read before; I did however find that it got a bit repetitive and some of the content was far more explicit than I was expecting.

A solid 3 stars, not a horrible book but a fairly shocking one.

I've read both the original and edited versions of Corporate Nightmare (ARC) and I'm pleased with how much the author has improved the story.

Other reviewers have explained the storyline so I won't go into detail here as the basic outline of the plot hasn't changed.

I knew up front that this is a dark tale and that in itself doesn't bother me. Yes, what happens to Kate is truly disturbing, but the subject matter doesn't put me off. I'd struggled with a couple of things with the original version: how easily Kate discovers the secrets of what's really going on at the company she works for and the sudden change of heart from her captor. But happily the author has expanded on these and both sit much better with me as a reader.

It's hard to come up with an endearing nickname for the heroine, but I too am not a fan of Richard calling Kate, Bird. Although that might have something to do with me being English - a bloke calling a woman Bird has all sorts of connotations over here. Maybe Little Bird would have sat better?

I've given the edited version 3 stars, which according to GR's criteria means I Liked it - which I did, but I have a whole other problem with this star rating system and think it needs a serious overhaul. 3 STARS IS GOOD. Please don't think this means it's not worth a read, because it is.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.....

The storyline was ok, but can I just ask how many times can someone be kidnapped!!!!, three tines in a story may be excessive, and it can't quite understand why she keeps getting caught. The came Big..boss man...he was just so unrealistic in the end. He believes he's made Katie pregnant, then uses her is his cohorts and then proclaims her love, then when she tells him the baby is not his, he believes her, takes her back to her boyfriend Richard and leaves her after proclaiming his undying love for her.

I found the format of the book difficult, and the start hard to get going. To start with I found it boring, but then it gained my interest, but I just found some aspects too unrealistic to take.
Saying that I would still love to see the outcome, so I did enjoy the basic story line. To see if she can finally finds peace and settles down with Richard, without someone trying to steal her away and turn her into a sex slave.
