Normally I don't mention a book's cover when I review it. The only time I do is when the cover leads me to expect something different than what's contained in the book. In this case, a book about how to crochet would be better served with the image of someone crocheting instead of someone knitting. The writing in this book is difficult to decipher; it's repetitive and misleading with many grammar and spelling errors. The text is sometimes contradictory from one paragraph to the next. The author's constant use of the ampersand (&) was crazy-making to me. Lists are in no order whatsoever. There are no images for the more advanced stitches and techniques. As someone who is familiar with crochet, I don’t recommend this book to actual beginners.
A book with all the information about crochet. A hook and a little yarn are enough to start practicing. Crocheting is an art that can be easily learnt and, apart from relaxing, you can make lots of patterns to use around the house or to give them away. Belts, caps, shoes, scarves, gloves, tablecloths, bedspreads, clothes, etc. small and big, soft and thin, anything you can think of, you can crochet. There was only one thing that was strange and that was the cover: the picture didn't show an image of crochet but knitting. The cover is of someone knitting, that should have been picked up on by someone surely? For me as a visual learner this book did not have enough images for my liking, I needed to see what I was supposed to be doing to help the instructions make more sense. I did like the history part and the difference between US and UK , but as a beginner this just wasn't the right book for me I'm afraid.

Highly recommended. I class myself as a confident beginner so I know my limitations in understanding patterns and the actual process of crocheting like a bed in a bottle! I'm still slow and I talk aloud to myself when reading the pattern! So this book isn't so much as a challenge for me, rather, it pushes the confident beginner to move on. Thankfully it's highly illustrated and these pictures of yarn and hook are very clear. I think you, my crochet loving friends, will find this book a great resource for your crochet projects.
This was an interesting introduction to crocheting. There were a lot of definitions of different stitches, materials and a few projects, but not very many pictures. This could be a help in learning to crochet with the right reader.
