Rise of a Pirate is the first book in the Clif and Ri on the Sea Adventure series. The story evolves when two siblings' lives, Clifton and Henrietta, are dramatically changed when a tragic fatal accident claims the life of Henrietta's love interest, Thomas Cranston. On that fateful night, Clif tries to expose Thomas Cranston to Henrietta for the cad he is, a ruthless, womanizing scoundrel when things go terribly wrong. Heartbroken, Henrietta is left to contemplate her future while Clifton is forced to flee his home and family a seek refuge as a ship's mate in the Caribbean. Henrietta eventually meets and marries a sea captain, William Blanchard, and moves to his house in Hideaway Bay, Whispering Manor. Henrietta's life gets turned upside down again when she learns that her husband has been lost at sea and presumed dead. It is believed that Henrietta threw herself off Whispering Manor's Widow Walk to her death as a result of her emotional depression. Prior to her demise, Henrietta's brother, Clif, reunites with his sister to consul and protect her and plan for a future she may have always wanted but never realized. I enjoyed the story of the siblings and their dedication to each other, although, at times tumultuous, was loving and profound. The prose flowed well as the plot developed and the development of the pirate scenario was convincing. The high sea encounters and battles were powerful and exciting to imagine. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great pirate adventure and the journey it took to get there. (I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review).
This is an intriguing story. Not quite your average pirate adventure, but one more intetesting. I love Cliff character - seem to not have more flaws. And with Ri I have an love-hate relationship: I liked her in the beginning, for being smart and seeking independence. But at 17 she turn into a spoiled grown out child - and she remain one untill 21-ish. Her bratty behaviour let herto soo many trouble! And she acknoledge them a little (too) late. I liked her after this - with her plan to partnership with Cliff. And can’t wait for their next adventures!.

I enjoyed reading this story, and believe a great series will develop. Adventurers and attitude describe the characters. I can't wait to see the story unfold. Well done!
Henrietta thought life very unfair. Her brother Clifton was able to do whatever he wanted. If he wanted to be a pirate then he could. If she wanted to write stories of pirates it was frowned upon. Women were only good for running households and being supportive wives and mothers. They always said they would stay together and take care of eachother, but Clif left her behind to follow his pirate dreams. Another wonderful easy read from Nelle
Based on the title and the cover alone I expected an entirely different type of story. However, I was pleasantly surprised watching the relationship between the siblings and particularly the dynamic between Clif & Ri develop. Early on I found myself cheering and rooting for Ri, wanting her to take charge of her life. The sister and brotherly love between these two main characters was beautiful. There was action on the seas and between pirates. I liked the ending and won't tell any spoilers. Overall an enjoyable read. Thank you Ms. Steele!
Rise of a Pirate is the Prequel for A Clif & Ri on the Sea Adventure by Nellie H Steele. I love how Nellie Steele begins this new series. The book opens with Ri 9 and Clif 8. Clif always wanted to be a pirate and Ri loves to write stories. The story progresses through heart break ups and downs to adulthood. The characters are so well written and I found that I couldn't put the book down. I can't wait to see what adventures await Clif and Ri. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
This book was fun to read Henrietta who has been very unlucky in finding love and her brother Clifton who is very protective but Clifton murders Ri,s so called lover Thomas and runs away and becomes a pirate and RI feels deserted. Then she gets into an unhappy marriage and she and Clifton both end up in danger. Will they survive?
Great start to the Clif & Ri on the Sea series, it did everything that I was hoping for. It did everything that I was looking for in a pirate novel. The characters were what I was looking for and it did everything that was promised. I can't wait to read more from Nellie H. Steele.

This was an awesome read. It gives you some great background about Ri, who is the ghost in book #3 of th "Lily & Cassie By The Sea" series. This is a great mystery series! You will love it. There's more about Ri in "A Pirate's Life For Ri. These are full of adventure and page-turners!!
A wonderful book by author Nellie H. Steele. I really liked the character of Henrietta. This is the first book I have read by this author. But won't be my last... Enjoyed reading...

Nice little filler book for the Lily and Cassie mystery books. Answered a good amount of questions I had from reading Ghosts, Lore and a house by the shore and Spirits, tales and a body by the bales. Onto A Pirate's life for Ri now to finish it up before waiting for book in the official series. Lol
I really liked the other books in this series, but this one, not so much. The first part is about Cliff and Ri's childhood and is boring. I absolutely hated their mother's character, she was terrible. Disappointing, as the other books were so good...
The story is the prequel to the other books in the series. It was really repetitive. I enjoyed the other two books. This was a bit if a let down as I hoped to find out more about Ri and Clif but really did not. I would skip if you have read the other books.
