Joseph Marie Eugène Sue (20 January 1804 – 3 August 1857) was a French novelist.
He was born in Paris, the son of a distinguished surgeon in Napoleon's army, and is said to have had the Empress Joséphine for godmother. Sue himself acted as surgeon both in the Spanish campaign undertaken by France in 1823 and at the Battle of Navarino (1828). In 1829 his father's death put him in possession of a considerable fortune, and he settled in Paris.
A street in Paris is named for Eugene Sue, in the 18th Arrondissement: Rue Eugene Sue is located near the Poissonnière Metro station, and is not far from Montmartre and the Basilica of the Sacré Coeur.

Une fin en demi-teinte: quelques passages intéressants sur l’hospice et la mort, mais beaucoup de longueur et de mièvrerie (même si ça passe parce que tout le livre avait cet aspect). Le vrai problème vient que les pêcheurs, fussent-ils repentants, ne sont rachetés que par la mort (le Chourineur ou Fleur-de-Marie), comme une incapacité de l’auteur à faire passer au stade suivant: le pardon des fautes et une réelle acceptation de l’autre. Dommage, cela vient affaiblir un discours qui, au fil des livres, et par le biais d’un feuilleton efficace, s’est montré moderne pour son temps et parfois même encore d’actualité

Thật không dễ dàng gì để kết thúc bộ tiểu thuyết này, đã lắm lúc mình cầm lên đặt xuống và phải gắng gượng lắm mới gấp được đến trang cuối trọn vẹn. Mình nói vậy vì không phải độ dài của cuốn truyện, hay nội dung của nó quá phức tạp làm nản lòng người đọc.
Khách quan mà nói, cuốn sách có plot gay cấn, hấp dẫn; tuy nhiên được thể hiện theo hướng kịch và dài dòng lê thê, nhân vật, lời thoại ủy mị sướt mướt nên không mang lại cho mình ấn tượng như đã mong đợi. Các tấn bi kịch nối tiếp nhau, tạo xúc động, gây căm phẫn cho người theo dõi; nhưng lời văn kịch quá nên hầu như mình thấy tụi nó cứ diễn tiến theo hơi hướng hài hài.
Với mình, điểm sáng của cuốn sách chính là cô bạn thân của Marie; nhân vật đã giữ mình ở lại và giúp mình trôi qua những quãng nhẹ nhàng nhất- Rigolette. Mình thích lối sống, suy nghĩ, phong cách của cô lắm; dù bản thân lại là đứa ủy mị, lắm nghĩ như Marie.
