The quiet ones are the ones who you better not mess around with! Letitia was a Wallflower and she was not going out of her way to get men to take notice of her, but they should. Why is it that people think that if you don’t make a spectacle of yourself or be loud and talkative that you are not worth getting to know? I was also one of those who stayed in the background and just excelled at whatever task I was supposed to,but I never went out of my way to make people notice me or be part of the in-crowd! Letitia had her group of friends where she seemed to come alive and never worried that they were critiquing everything. Where when you are out in a big public forum everyone is watching every move and eyeing your outfit for any reason that it doesn’t make you look perfect. Letitia was not into fashion or being one of the ton people. She wanted a family, but not if she had to lower her self. I loved her principles and that she wasn’t willing to compromise for anything but falling in love. She loves the biggest rogue of them all, Edward Wynn. He does end up taking her to bed and breaking her heart just like a rake does! Her heart is crushed and of course she literally wants to die, but she is not that type of person and is going to stand up for herself and not let anyone get her down. She has the strongest character and will go back out in public and hold up her head and will dare people to cut her because she has the power of her family but most of all it’s her strength of personality! I loved the fact that the author created this character to have such a strong backbone and was so eager to insure to those who thought in anyway that she would hide and let them run their mouths. Nope, she would be front and center by her wall and they could say what they want as she watched! Most would have left and hidden and even went to the country until another scandal hit the balls. However, not this socialite, she was going to hold up the walls as the resident Wallflower! I loved it! Poor Edward realized that he truly found true love, but he screwed up, but now he didn’t know what to do or how to fix it, because for the first time in his life he didn’t have any clue what words to use. Men that used words just to use them to get what they wanted and then when they really want something they desire, they are at a loss because the words are useless. The words have no meaning because they never were ever used for purposes of goodness. How sad in life to not know how to use the right words for a worthy cause. I almost felt bad for him because of his pain and basically his ignorance and arrogance, but I think he deserved to have the set down because a person has to learn that they can’t just hurt people at will like that. A person has to take accountability for their actions and when they harm another person even if it was I intentionally or not, they still need to take the consequences for the pain their actions caused. I love this book because it teaches people to be aware of harming others feelings because it can cause irreparable damages. I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and I am willingly giving my thoughts and opinions.
Sadly this one was not for me. I was initially intrigued by the premise and thought I would have really enjoyed this book, however, this was not the case. The story revolves around a self proclaimed wallflower, Letitia Cavendish, who suffers from crippling shyness to the point where you have to feel bad for her. The love interest, a rake, Edward Wynn, instantly becomes obsessed with her after he insults her and she storms off. This was all well and fine and I grew to really like Letitia and Wynn as a couple. However 60% into the book is where everything went downhill for me. Wynn essentially does what he likes and makes excuses and uses loopholes in his wording to say it's not his fault he did what he did all the while proclaiming he loves Letitia. He goes from saying he is obsessed with her to saying that he does not love her and does not plan on marrying her, the poor girl is suffering from emotional whiplash. After the major disagreement, which left me decided against Wynn, he just shows up and is suddenly forgiven. I was holding out for Letitia to actually hold up to her growing back bone but that went downhill fast. So, all in all, I was left disappointed by the conclusion of the story and disappointed in the characters. I really enjoyed the first half of the book though. Even though this book did not work out for me I hope it might work out for anyone else who reads it and gives it a chance, maybe this romance is for you! * Thank you Netgalley for sending me an arc in exchange for a honest review*
Thank you Dragonblade Publishing and Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
While I did enjoy the book, I felt that Edward and Letitia become a couple too quickly, maybe its the due to the fact that I did not read the previous 4 books in this series, but I could not understand how a shy wallflower could initiate a kiss with a known rake.
Even though Letitia is a mousy wallflower, with Edward she comes so comfortable, she can be honest and at times out spoken. which is something I would have like to see developed a little more (maybe it was in the books before that, but I'm not sure)
Edward is an unrepentant rake and is quite surprised by Letitia's outburst, and becomes determined to know more about the mousy little wallflower. I think Edward could have begged a little more, because Letitia forgave him way too easily and too quickly for what he did.
I am sure that to a lot of people it was a GREAT story, to me it just didn't live up to the potential. It could have been so much better if we'd seen real character development from Letitia, and Edward.
I enjoyed this romance story of Lady Letitia Cavendish and Edward Wynn, Viscount Stulsemere.
Lady Letitia Cavendish is a wallflower. She a very shy and goes unnoticed at parties. She has a crush on her best friend's brother and wish that one day she would be able to dance with him. Well she gets her chance her cousin introduce her to him and he asked her to dance.
Edward Wynn, Viscount Stulsemere is a terrible rake and is very proud of it. Plus he is very handsome. When he is introduced to Lady Letitia Cavendish he can't figure out why she will not respond to his charms. But while dance and talking to her he inadvertently insults her and she walks off the dance floor. This is weird for him there is a girl that doesn't want him. So he decide to pursue her.
But while pursuing her things get interesting for him and her. This book had twist and turn that had me guessing what the author might do next.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
Edward has a huge ego and just as bad a reputation. Lady Letitia Cavendish is a wallflower who is a friend of Edward Wynn's adopted sister (there is a whole other story there) who stands on the wall because she doesn't want to draw attention to herself. Edward doesn't have any interest in a wallflower, he is a flirt and a rake who thinks nothing of ruining young ladies. I honestly did not really like Edward at first except when he is with Letitia. He becomes a different person when he with her or thinking about her. She brings out the good in him until his ego gets in the way. "You do not understand--I have a reputation to uphold" and she sure sets him straight on his reputation. Fortunately, Edward realizes what a rose he has in his wallflower and redeems himself in the end. I'm so excited to see what the secret is about Mariah. I have loved each book in this collection, They all have their own unique story that you will drawn you in from the first paragraph.
I felt a little lost starting with this book versus reading the prior ones and this being an addition. The characters felt very one dimensional and little growth. Lady Letitia, is known as a wallflower and as such easily dismissed. I liked her as a heroine but felt like she deserved way better than Viscount Wynn. He acted more like a boy denied a treat than a man in love. Only when she cut him off from meeting her did he "realize" his love. This was after many hurtful things he stated and we are just to believe that he fully changed in a matter of days; with no real proof of the "ah ha" moment. I would read more books by this author as I really liked some of the other characters but the hero ruined this book for me.
Lady Letitia Cavendish is as shy as they come. Always hiding behind a plant or backed into the wall at any society function. Never would she dance, just talk with her best friend. She is from a wonderful family, but she does not want to put herself forward, afraid she would do something wrong. Edward Wynn, a handsome rake, has been partnered with her for a dance and discovers that she is the most boring lady. So, he resigns himself to twenty minutes of silence. Letitia decides she does not want to put up with him and storms off leaving him alone on the dance floor. That is on heard of to leave the Viscount of Stulsemere alone in the middle of a dance. What wonderful characters, situations, and a brilliant conquest to be made or maybe not.
I've enjoyed all of the books in the Never the Bride series and this was no exception. Although I've grown fond of Leticia over time, I found Edward to be a bit of a jerk through most of the story and thought she deserved better. That being said, I would still recommend this book as well as the others in the series. I always enjoy them and eagerly await the next. Mariahs story, perhaps? Thank you Emily E K Murdoch, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Letitia is a renowned wallflower from a well known, powerful family. She is painfully shy and seen as apparently plain to most suitors. She has her eye on Edward who is a well known rake. The two are complete opposites and in my honest opinion not well matched since she is too forgiving of his bad behavior and he is too egotistical to make a reliable suitor. Unfortunately I do not have much patience with heroines that lack a backbone it makes the power dynamics unfair and disturbing to read.
Always the Wallflower is the fifth book in the series by Emily Murdoch. What initially drew me to this title is that the main female character is a wallflower and the male is a rogue. Lady Leticia is a young woman who hides herself from people she does not know. When she first meets Edward, she believes that he is only toying with her and continues to hide her true self. Edward breaks through her barriers and shows her love, but once one is a rogue, is one always a rogue?
I have never read this author or this series before but I really enjoyed this story. Its a historical and features the rougue and the wallflower. Both very happy people and with their roles, But inside they are more than those titles and it was fun seeing them shock each other as the rogue, Edward chases the wallflower aka Letitia.
It was a fun romance and its more novella size story and it was a perfect length and I highly enjoyed it.

Edward is not my favorite guy. One minute he's so sweet and caring, the next he's being a selfish jerk. Letty is sweet and tries to break out of her timidness for Edward.
I do love Edward's protectiveness of Letty when other men make rude, ribald jokes about her, so that's a few points for him. It was a sweet story once Edward grew up.
