Pain Management is a unique book written by a patient herself a chronic pain sufferer for over four decades for patients. Rene Goossens recounts her battles with pain and her inspirational success in surviving pain. Pain Management provides up to date information, reference material and case histories on sensitive issues of Dementia Care, Neurological Diseases, the work of Careers, Respite Care, Childrens Hospices, Caring for those with Life Limiting Illnesses, Death and Dying and Grief Counselling.
This was the third book I read about dealing with chronic pain and it was by far the best. While the others focused on ways you might be able to reduce pain, Pain Management also goes into the emotional effects of chronic pain and practical ways of living day to day with pain. While Goossens writes from a personal perspective it's clear that she also did a lot of research (something I found lacking in other books which were either incredibly clinical or lacking in research). I borrowed the book from my local library, but I'm thinking of buying a copy for myself to refer back to occasionally because it really helped me a lot.
