Covenant of Lies,

"Covenant of Lies" is a play on relationships among longtime friends, two couples, their children and observing problems that may exist in a family resulting from a drastic change in finances. There are also the interrelations that develop in a church setting as children mature into young adults. "Covenant of Lies" is also about an agreement to squash truth without anticipating the variableness in life, as if it can be suppressed.

This is a valiant attempt at melding religion with contemporary problems of fidelity and trust. However, in an attempt to develop a cliff hanger ending or preparation for a sequel, the author accomplished the task of making the readers feel like they read the book for nothing, as the solution to the proposed problem was anticipated nullifying the tension and twist.

The narrative often read like having a story told to you by someone who watched it rather than a story unfolding before readers. Style was nonexistent. The formatting of the interior of the book was double spaced rather than following grammatical rules, which made this book appear callous and rushed. And either "Covenant of Lies" was unedited or poorly edited as several instances occurred with word confusion (ex. buzzards for buzzers and evaluator for elevator). Also, the young characters, Shane and Jill, too often had lines of wisdom that appeared to be lacking in their parents. It felt like reading displaced spirituality or false spirituality.

There is potential with this author as her characters are affable, but her lack of development, execution and too loose ends makes this a read I cannot recommend.
