Stories of Hope is a documentary-style book that chronicles the lives of thirteen women who have overcome addiction, poverty, abuse and incarceration. Primarily incarcerated for non-violent, drug-related offenses, each woman featured in this book has experienced the transformative power of faith and community support, through which they have found a way to overcome addiction, poverty and criminal behavior. They are connected through a support group in St. Louis, Missouri, called Let's Start, under the leadership of Sister Jackie Toben. This organization has helped many women rebuild their lives after incarceration and given them the tools necessary for maintaining crime-free, drug-free lives. Stories of Hope also features statistics about incarceration as well as letters and stories from children with incarcerated parents. Author Rachel Lang Elliott and photographer Nancy Lebbing use words and portraits to capture the very spirit of each woman. The pages of this book prove that recovery is possible.

The women were honest and very open with sharing thier personal stories. They are now helping other women to overcome the same obtascles they experienced.
