This is the first English language edition of Sun Lu Tang's 1915 classic on xing yi (hsing yi). In addition to the original text and photographs by Sun Lu Tang, a complete biography and additional photos of Master Sun have been added.
Fascinating martial art, and interesting two-man set at the back. The pictures could be clearer-it's sometimes hard to tell which leg is in front due to the dark clothing/low resolution, but for the age it holds up quite well. I love the details around pressing the shoulders down/back, postural alignment, they're reminiscent of a good yoga teacher's guidance on finding the correct pose.
This well-done translation of the classic work by Sun Lutang (famous master of xingyiquan, baguazhang, and taijiquan) is very valuable even today as a solid textbook for the xingyiquan art. The work includes explanations for basic training, single techniques, forms, and two-person forms. Besides, the book also includes a detailed biography of Sun Lutang, as well as an interview with his daughter, Sun Jianyun.
Definitely a worthy reference for any xingyiquan practitioner!
This is a great book for anyone studying Xing Yi Quan. SUn Lu Tang give some detailed instruction that can help you figure out what you are doing right and wrong in the forms.
