The Tin Soldiers

Rate this book
Clockwork soldiers are on the march, and time is running out.

Jack Bishop has been in self-imposed exile ever since the failed colonisation of New Eden. But when galactic chaos threatens the automata’s chances of ever being treated like equals, Jack has no choice but to follow the crew of the Adeona back into danger again.

A decommissioned factory is mass-producing mechanical soldiers, and nobody knows why. Rogan and Tuner are sent to check. But what starts as a routine inspection soon evolves into a murderous conspiracy that threatens to fracture the Ministerium forever.

Jack wanted to hide from the galaxy. Now his crew’s the only one that can keep it from tearing itself apart.

The Tin Soldiers is the fifth book in the bestselling Final Dawn series. If you like page-turning space operas, then you’ll love this epic science fiction adventure.

“Your pessimistic reluctance is noted, as always,” said Rogan. “But can you at least try to be helpful? If you can’t do that, you’re welcome to wait for us up here on the ridge.” “No chance,” said Jack, climbing to his feet. “If we’re going to get killed, I’d much rather die with you lot. Otherwise I’ll just feel guilty and awful, and then probably die anyway.” “There’s the usual Jack spirit,” said Tuner.

Our band of misfit and unlikely heroes are back! Set a year after the events with Charon. Jack is after a settled lifestyle. But the galaxy has different plans for him.

Pulled into yet another mission, Jack, Klik, Rogan, Tuner and their sentient ship Adi have to stop an evil cultist from executing mass genocide.

Brimming with more laughs, more action and more interstellar excitement.

Tin soldiers by TWM Ashford.
Final Dawn, Book 5.

Brilliant read. I loved reading about the gang with Jack again. I never want this series to end. I do hope there is more to come. I would definitely recommend this book. 5*.

Guess who's back? Back again. Yes it's Jack, and he blooming well is back and better than ever. Loved this series from the start, and it continues to grow on me (in a nice way, not like some sort of deadly fungal infection way). I love all the characters, especially little/big tuner that dude is just plain awesome.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone (well unless you love chick-lit, I mean who even reads that stuff?) But do yourself a favour and start at the beginning of the series (sssshhh don't tell anyone, but that is how a series works)

While The Tin Soldiers felt like another 'corridor' entry to The Final Dawn to me; it's still a solid addition to the series.

With books that are short like the Final Dawn I'd say it's safe you should expect a corridor book or two, especially when the series is 9 books long so I don't say this in a negative way at all; just that that's what you should expect when going into the book.

As always, there's great character interactions, humour and dynamic scenarios that make The Tin Soldiers a breeze to read.

Another fantastic read from this superbly talented author.
Book 5 in the series and it follows on from previous novels - so if you are new to the series start with book 1!
Another outing full of drama and adventure for Jack, a return of favourite characters and a storyline that hooked me in.
A fantastic read!

I love Jack. I love this series. I love how he had a mid life crisis and developed anxiety and panic attacks after all the crazy stuff he's done. I love how interconnected the stories are and how the whole crew rattle along. It has a real Firefly vibe and is just so damn easy to read.

Jack and friends are off again, trying to stop bad guys and not get killed/destroyed in the process. I definitely prefer this crew when they are out adventuring, as opposed to stuck in one place. And they also get some less than welcome passengers. I won't say anymore to avoid spoilers.

My favorite in the series thus far

Really finally see the main character gain his balance. Really lovely ideas about chosen family in this book that I quite enjoyed. Going to see what happens with Jack and the gang next!
