Anything published by Taschen is a visual delight. This book is pure sumptuous armchair traveling, taking you to luxury or notable hotels from 12 African countries. Each textual profile is brief, allowing for more full-bleed photos. I enjoyed the history tidbits from each hotel--some dating back hundred of years--but I especially loved the reading recommendations, pairing a book to pack to each hotel.

The hotels vary from high glamor and gleaming Moroccan tiles in Marrakesh, to hotels where giraffes will pop their heads right into your windows in Kenya, to glamping in a gorilla preserve in Tanzania; to a seaside paradise in Zanzibar; to true solitude in Botswana, to rustic chic in South Africa.
