Tropicana Field is currently one of the most maligned ballparks in all of baseball. One of the main complaints is the location, which outsiders don’t seem to fully understand. “Build It and They Will Come” sheds light on the politics of the Tampa Bay Area and the massive gamble that St.Petersburg took in building the Florida Suncoast Dome without a tenant. Essentially divided into two parts, the building of the dome and the attracting the Rays, Pedersen’s accounting is enlightening and allows the reader to follow the somewhat complicated political process. A little dry if you are hoping for more baseball and less politics, but a truly unique story that is worth the undertaking.
