I liked the idea of this book a lot more than I actually like it. Schodt originally got interested in Ecuador because he spent two years there with the Peace Corps(!) and then went back a bunch and wrote a really dry history of the country. I skimmed most of it because I won't remember who challenged who in the 1987 elections on a platform of whatever. Nor will it ever be important for me to know.

The title though! "An Andean Enigma"... maybe the publisher was trying to be funny.
