In Agent Down, we return to the story of Bruce and Vee, two embattled lovers fighting to save humanity from a supernatural plague while coming to terms with the power and depth of their feelings for each other in the face of an assignment that threatens to break them.
Agent Down is one of those stories that makes an impact-it has action, adventure, intrigue, and tons of heart. The emotion jumps off the page, with Bruce and Vee's romance resonating to a degree that you will absolutely feel and root for. As the sinister motives behind the cryptid saga unfold, and Vee and Bruce struggle to reconcile their loyalty to the Company with their undeniable bond, they are in turn thrust into a crucible whereby they must reckon with the oft-warring forces of love and duty. I'm a huge fan of Janet Walden-West's writing, and this is my favorite story of hers yet. If you love urban fantasy with a great storyline and plenty of heat and heart, this one is for you!

This is the second book of the series and a new to me author. You can read alone, but if you are someone who likes the full context of how the story and relationship begins, go check out book one. In this book Bruce and Vee are in full-on relationship mode and Bruce is ready to make the long term commitment. He has made a life with the paranormal agents and they have become his second family.
Vee and her siblings are discovering things about the world they never knew growing up sheltered in the Company. The second book is full of heart-rending drama that I am not gonna lie, made me almost put the book down a few times. But one must persevere to the end, as our cranky chef and commanding officer have to fight their way back from near death and vampires to find out if their love is strong enough to win.

Here they are again...my favorite cryptid hunter & my favorite chef...still in love & still working it out. What could possibly go wrong other than what they have encountered already? Buckle up!
I have to admit that it did take me a minute to orient myself to the story line like with Dracula (yeah, that Dracula, Bram Stoker's Dracula.). So, now you know that vampires are involved and the "stakes" are higher than they have ever been for the Company.
JW-W delivers. Fasten your seat belt and get ready for those twists and turns!

Truly amazing storytelling!
This was a phenomenal read. The world building is exceptional and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat.
This one tore at my heart strings - I love these characters and their relationships!

Holy bombshells!! They just kept coming in this book. The first traumatic event especially was very well-written, I’m guessing from the author’s experience. Then things get crazy . . .

This book has turned the world upside down for everyone. Bruce has Stage 4 cancer a d Liv works to keep him alive. But how will she do that. What are the consequences and how does a 400 year old vampire fit in. All these questions are asked and answered in thus 2nd book of the Region Two Urban Fantasy. I guarantee you will not believe how it all works out. You will also not be able to out the book down.

Four and and a half stars
The relationship,between warrior Vee and arrogant chef Bruce undergoes a tragic challenge just as Bruce is on the verge of proposing. Vee tries everything she can to save the situation including taking drastic measures which go against her training and could see her heavily disciplined by her superiors.

Loved this book. Part 1 Literally made me cry, part two made me want to bang together the heads of Vee & Bruce. The dynamics between all the characters is a real page turner.

Cryptid is a loose term for non-human creatures, such as the Chupacabra, a dog-like being that fights to the death, and Vampires, some of whom feed on humans, while others feed only on themselves.
The Company team is still at work keeping the human population safe from even knowing of the existence of the war against the Cryptids. A major change happened at the end of the last book. The Company's C.O., Victoria has been changed into a Vampire.
To understand how earthshaking this is to the Company Agents living with her, you will need to read the first book. Imagine the Team as one, tight-knit family that never, ever, breaks any Company rules.

vampires, Windigos and Bears
In reviewing the first book in this series I started out by saying the storyline was unique. I hold to that with this second book though the addition of a vampire among the main characters linked it back to the standard vampire ghoul and other scariest with a couple in the throes of the we will we wont we do we don't and you know they will be together in the end. It was a good read and a fast one and I enjoyed it a little more than the first book.

Plot: Uh. Let’s destroy the HEA from Book 1.
Overall: The first half of this book went some seriously unexpected places, which made for a very unusual romance reading experience.
So in Agent Zero, the first book in the Region Two series, we met Bruce and Vee as they figured out that they are in perfect sync and also figured out how to make their lives work. You know, since Vee is part of a secret paramilitary group of monster hunters who lives on an isolated compound with her unit and has very limited contact with the civilian world—and Bruce is a celebrity chef. Agent Zero was a really fun “Oh shit, I’m in over my head!” kind of book that also teased a larger mystery, so I was excited to see where Walden-West would take the world with Book 2.
It did not go where I thought it would.
Spoiler alert: I’m going to be talking about the plot a lot in this review because it threw me for a loop. Most of what I talk about happens in the first half of the book, but if you’d rather go in blind, uh, just know that the author puts her MCs through the wringer, and they have a lot of feelings about that.

Doubling down on the intensity for book 2 of the Region Two series!
Wow. I was not prepared for this roller coaster ride. The nonstop action combined with the emotional intensity and constant miscommunication between Vee and Bruce was…a lot. And so, so good! Bold directions for the author to take all of the characters. Wonderful to see their strength, commitment, and growth in the face of the chaos and change in their lives. Loving this series!

this was heavy
This story turned a great, quirky, adventurous, exciting monster hunters story into an emotionally disturbing human roller coaster which didn’t seem to fit with the original story. It was very stressful, I almost didn’t read through to the end, but even though I finished it, I didn’t feel happy with the way the story went.

Oh. My. God. I really enjoyed the prequel and the first book. I jumped into this one expecting to continue the trend…. Vee and Bruce pulled my heart out, stomped all over it and then ran it through a blender. So glad I didn’t have to read that during the week. Crying at work over fictional characters is not acceptable. Absolutely loved this book!!

TW: Cancer, trauma
This book honestly read like a pandemic book (many books written in the pandemic are sadder and don't follow the tone/plot of previous books) and I felt like was needlessly traumatic. There were at least three seriously traumatic things that happened in this book which was not what the previous book set up and went against previous character growth. It was so needlessly upsetting and was a really bizarre way to handle these characters. The intro to the book was great but after the first traumatic event it all just went downhill. The story stopped being enjoyable and just felt like trauma porn. The first book had serious stakes but was fairly lighthearted and this was just... not.
