The people who make the laws and solve problems form something called a government, something that exist all over the world. Someone who works in the government can help an entire country or they can simply be in charge of taking care of a city or state. In the United states we choose our leaders by voting, which people are able to do when they are 18 years of age and are a citizen to this country. The president is known as the most important leader as he leads the whole country, we get to vote for a new president every 4 years. The books goes on to teach as fact like the fact that Washington D.C was named as after the first president. It tells us that Congress is a part of the government and the Senate is a part of Congress. It lets us know how before we didn't use to have as many government officials because the U.S population was not as large back then. I would use this book to teach my students just how much our country has grown, our government is much larger and there are a lot more people in government. This would make a great lesson where student could make a poster divided in half, one side would show government in the past and the other half would show our government today.
