Now in its second decade of production, Mazda's superb convertible roadster has become by far the world's best-selling sports car. Here, in definitive detail, is the full story of the MX-5 Miata (known as the Eunos Roadster in Japan) from inception in the early 1980s to the current third generation models. Researched in Japan, this book includes exclusive interviews with key people in the MX-5 story. Coverage includes development, launch details, the model’s evolution in all the major markets, motorsport, specials, and much, much more. The book also features a foreword by Takao Kijima, the MX-5 Miata's chief engineer.
Better in the early chapters covering the development and reception of the first generation Miata MX-5 than the latter ones. The bulk of the book after chapter 3 covers the production history, changes, colors, and options of subsequent model years of the 1990-1997 Miata in respective world markets. For a car that changed relatively little over time in substance, I found the latter chapters to prove a bit tedious to read. However, as a reference for NA ('90-'97) Miata enthusiasts, this information could prove helpful in identifying unique models of the little roadster. The last chapters cover the development of the NB (1999-2005) MX-5 Miata.
