"By 40 you have learned a measure of wisdom and you have gained understanding through the many tests that life offers. As a result, the years after 40 have the potential to be the best ever!" (Patricia King, Dream Big: How the "Second Half" of Life Can Be the "Better Half" of Life, Page 16)

This book is geared toward those who are considered on the "Second Half" of their life; those in their 40's, 50's and 60's. I happenchanced upon this book, not knowing that this book was exactly what I needed being that I just turned 40 this year! Some have called this the time when you are expected to have a mid-life crisis, you are "over-the-hill" or that dreaded statement: "you are getting old." This made me introspect myself and think that if I only live until I am 60, then I only have 20 years left on this earth!

The Author encourages you that it can get better in your second half of your life. She gives many practical examples of this through the Bible, her own personal experience, and the people she has met. She says, "Most presidents, kings, queens, ambassadors, and other national and global leaders usually come into office in their second half of life. Most people become financially stable in their second half of life. By the second half of life, we have learned most of the hard lessons and have a bit of wisdom under our belts. Out gifts and talents have matured to a point where they can be utilized to their fullest potential. We are just getting started. This is no time to wind down-we are just winding up! We can anticipate blessings galore in the second half of life. The best is yet to come!" (p. 18).

Some topics she covers include: Attitude; Vibrant Spirituality; The Importance of Dreaming; Fulfillment; Faith; Health, Fitness and Beauty.

My favourite chapter personally was Chapter 3: Dream Big-The Importance of Dreaming. Some quotes from this chapter that I highlighted:

"It is never too late to stir up fresh dreams. Increased blessings in life always begins with dreaming. Dreaming will keep your life fresh and flourishing."

"It is important to have clearly defined dreams and visions within you and a plan of action to fulfill them. Remember, all things are possible!"

"Anger usually surfaces as a result of injustice. Identify the injustice and direct your anger toward the actual injustice but remove it off of any individual who was involved."

"If you hide yourself inside the remorse and pain, you will stay in that pit, or you can rise up and enjoy the rest of your life."

"The more you proclaim blessings over yourself and others, the more blessings will manifest in your life. It is like planting seed in a garden. Whatever seed you plant will grow a harvest for you. You want a harvest of blessing."

There are also a few workbook exercises that I thoroughly enjoyed and thought were very effective. One of the exercises gets you to list all your disappointments, broken dreams, and failures, and then surrender them to God in prayer. This exercise helps you to release these things and helps you to begin to dream again! Another exercise gets you to list your desires, the description of the seed(s) you require to plant to get your dreams, and then gets you to track the harvests you receive as a result of planting these seeds. For example, if you desire favour, you can plant a seed of making daily favour Scripture decrees over your life; the result (the harvest) will be these decrees coming into manifestation!

The second half of life can be the best half of life. It is all about attitude. This book will help you to reshape your attitude, so you can DREAM BIG AGAIN! The best is yet to come after you are 40, 50, 60, and even your 70's!

An encouraging read! It helped me to broaden my thinking and horizons by learning to have time to just sit and think and allow myself to dream of what I want to be and do.
