In 2010, Astronomers found a new planet. Today, that planet found us. In a time of war, Prince Tyche witnesses the murder of his father. Desperate for answers, he seeks the help of a girl whose picture has hung on his wall since he was ten. Surprisingly, this girl is not from his planet. She is an alien, from Earth. Together they begin an adventure that spans the universe. In the process, they learn that they cannot escape the gravitational pull of destined love.
I surprised myself by really enjoying this book. YA sci-fi romance isn't really what I usually read but I found myself rapidly drawn into the fantastical back-drop of the novel: bizarre races, exciting locations, great characters. The plot is an evolving romance between an alien prince and an earth girl who join to embark upon a mission to liberate his planet. There's some nice touches (I especially like the 'flash' power) and the finale really makes the book for me. All in all- good fun.
What was really surprising in the book was number of spelling mistakes. It was quite irritating. The story itself was interesting, world building was not bad but the characters were not very endearing. Especially at the end, i felt like banging my head on the wall, it was so insensible, a very idiotic end to a story that had been interesting enough that i decided to finish and see how all the things were resolved at the end. What i got was a hero who had been obsessed with the heroine throughout the book thinking of ways to convince her to stay with him, by leaving her at the end due to some feeble excuse, a heroine saying she loved him to a guy who had always been "just friend" for her and she did her best to avoid any romantic encounters with. Only Lincoln managed to save his face by not turning out to be total creep. A lot of things were good in the book but it needs heavy editing to be a better novel.
The world building in this YA novel was wonderfully done. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing through the eyes of those from another planet. The novel needs some editing, but over all it is well worth the read. I'm looking forward to the second book, Polaris.
Very creative, fun and quick read. Young adults will be particularly fond on this book. I'm looking forward to the next episode coming out (according to the author) in February!! The ending will confuse, then infuriate you - guaranteed!
This book was so painful to read. I went in with zero expectations, but the alien worlds were too much for me. Despite being a YA novel, it came off as too childish and far fetched. I don't plan on reading the sequel.
This book needs some MAJOR editing. The run on sentences, grammar, punctuation, etc drove me NUTS. However, I liked the story enough to keep reading. I just had to change everything in my head.
