This book is a continuation of the last book and I'm going to be repeating this for the next book. Richard and Jack Fitzwarren (half-brothers) are attempting to leave Malta after striking an order for armaments for the Maltese Order of Knights, Emilio one of the brethren escorting Richard and Jack back to London to pick up the huge consignment of gun and powder they need. However due to a storm the ship arrives off the west coast of england, and 4 days horse ride to London in the attempt to stop Andrew Kineer, a very bad guy, getting hold of the consignment. I quite like Emilio, he is clearly interested in Jack!
They have a long ride down to London to get to Christian Carter who has the shipment ready to be loaded from his warehouse. Only Christian doesn't realise that he is in danger of being killed by Kineer who will take his assigment away for nothing but make a packet on selling it to the Order in Malta. The plot does start to pick up pace here and goes off at a gallop which involves Richard pulling in old favours from senior men in court, killing Kineer after he abducted Christian's young son, breaking into The Tower of London as Jack was caught in the church where they did kill Kineer, and Richard trying hard to get his brother out. And all sorts of other things which no doubt will be handled in the next book in the series. This has been book 5! It has to end somewhere, book 10 is my guess!! All shall be revealed then, all loose ends tidyed up and the series finishes. At least i hope it does as I've lost a lot of sleep reading these.
Well, once again, my hopes were dashed. I have read the previous books in this series and they're ALL the same. Ms Burnell doesn't seen to understand the proper use of any punctuation at all. No commas to help make a sentence actually make sense. No apostrophes. And sentence structure? Forget it. Many of the sentences are simply pieces of sentences. Or something that should be an entire sentence but it broken midway by a period and then the rest of the sentence followed as another incomplete part of the sentence. If you could actually read the true story part of this book, it would've been a perhaps 200 page book and you'd have understood everything important about the book. But no. There was so much unnecessary fluff and filler that I actually skipped many, many pages just to get to the important bits. I'd like to say something good about this book but I just can't find anything. And as before, it ends in a total cliffhanger that is supposed to draw you into the next book. But with this sorry unedited mess, I just can't go on to read anymore of these trainwrecks.
Well written and entertaining. Richard and Mac arrive back in England to complete their end of the deal with the Order. Of course they manage to get in and out of trouble.I An entertaining historical fiction. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Another book in a terrific series. I love Jack and I love to hate Richard. And I'm coming to appreciate him more as a series progresses. Samantha Bernal does a wonderful job of depicting the times, the cruelty, the filth, imaginations and all that went into that time. I know it will, but I wish this series would never end.
Another great tale about two flawed but lovable characters. The relationship of these two brothers makes them unlikely heroes. I can’t wait for the next book!
The story gives insight to the troubled time between Henry VIii and the ascension of queen Elizabeth. It also points to medieval tendencies for violent and sudden action. This is done they the fascinating brothers Fotzwarren.
…night after sleepless night I have lost myself in this story. Brilliantly written. The characters are rich and complex. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
This is a most excellent well written book. One of the riveting scenes in the story almost had me shouting, “Come on, come on.” The realism was outstanding.
I love this series of books. Some of them are a little too stomach churning for me but they are good stories. Set in the reign of Mary, they are fast paced action
