Korean Employment Law Guide for Foreign CEOs and HR Managers

Rate this book
"One of the best new Labor Law books" - BookAuthority CEOs and HR managers know how difficult it is to find information on Korean labor laws in English. They all have an experience of googling an answer to their question on Korean employment law and only finding a handful of websites that barely answer the question. I wrote this guide to help them get the most essential information on employment law of South Korea without wasting their precious time on the Internet. The content of this book is based on questions on Korean employment laws that I received from hundreds of foreign employers and managers for the last fifteen years as a Korean employment law consultant. Let me tell you briefly what you can expect from this book. First, I summarize the most important rules of the labor standards act and other laws governing work conditions. I focus on the the most important points of 10+ laws governing work conditions including the Labor Standards Act, which is the major employment law and has not been translated into English since 2014. I only covered the matters that HR managers want to know. This book is short but pithy. Second, I explain all the information in plain English. I hate legalese. I am not a fan of abstruse and complicated sentences. I did my best to get clear ideas of what is meant by the Korean texts of relevant laws and to explain them in plain English. Third, I quote titles of relevant laws and article numbers for all the sections in the book as a source. So, you can be sure that I am not making things up but faithfully conveying the information in the law. It is also useful for writing any inside HR report because you have the reference to the information you find in the book. My book covers topics such as employment contract, work hours and overtime, ordinary wage, average wage, annual leave, holidays, social insurances, non-regular employees, dismissal, rules of employment, maternity leave, childcare leave, retirement benefits and more. Sunny Lee is a freelance consultant specializing in labor laws of South Korea. As a consultant and certified public labor attorney, he has been giving advice on Korean employment laws to foreign CEOs and HR managers for the last fifteen years.
