Johann Sebastian Bach (21 March 1685 – 28 July 1750) was a German composer and musician of the late Baroque period.

He wrote more than two hundred cantatas, the Saint Matthew Passion , the Mass in B Minor , orchestras, such as the six Brandenburg Concertos , chamber ensembles, and numerous works for organ, harpsichord, other solo instruments.

Bach fathered noted Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach, and Johann Christian Bach.

Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia arranged his works.

Avendo cantato col Forum Corale Europeo il Magnificat di Bach, mi sono comprato e "letto" questa edizione filologica.
Bach era un genio, ma era anche un cesellatore sopraffino. Aveva scritto il Magnificat nel 1723, e nove anni dopo decise di rimetterlo in sesto per un uso più generale, togliendo le parti strettamente natalizie e riaggiustando qua e là la tessitura armonica (a cinque parti, tra l'altro, mica pizza e fichi). Quello che succede quando si studia lo spartito, che è cosa diversa dall'ascoltarlo, è che si scopre tutta una serie di giochini armonici tra le parti che sono piacevoli persino all'occhio e non solo all'orecchio, il che tra l'altro significa che questa edizione è ben curata anche nei dettagli. Insomma, una gioia.
