She craved the adventure of a lifetime. She got it and it's much bigger than she ever dreamed.
Everything Aria tried to do in order to save her brother and help those closest to her has made everything worse. She's now alone with Beru, trying to figure out a way to fix what they've done, to undo what they've started. But Aria still can't get over the fact that Beru is a traitor to Onen Suun, the only man who dared to defy Dag'draath. Beru was the reason Onen Suun was forced to sacrifice his life to save the world.
But the more she learns about him, the more she realizes that maybe history got it wrong. Maybe the stories weren't quite true. Maybe Beru never betrayed the leader he so respected.
As they run, trying to find a solution, Dag'draath releases a new danger from his prison, using the rift Aria created.
If they can't find a solution soon, the prison will break, releasing the entire army buried within.
Can Aria and Beru find the key to keeping the prison closed before Dag'draath, the dark god, unleashes his demon army?

This is a fairly short follow up book to Dreamwalker and is the second book in the Legends of The Fallen series. It continues to follow Aria, who found out she was a Dreamwalker in the first book and her companions, Sade, Astor, Iri and Beru. At the end of the last book Aria managed to dreamwalk and rescued Beru from the prison where he had been stuck for the last two hundred years. Everyone else considers Beru as a traitor and the reason why Onen Suun had to sacrifice his own life to lock Dag’draath and his army of monsters away in this prison in another realm.
Aria started out wanting to live the life of a warrior, but was forced to train as a healer. She soon found out that she wasn’t really very good at being a warrior nor a healer. Aria did what she had to, as she was trying at the time to save her brother and her family, now she has to figure out how to fix the rift between their world and the prison, before Dag’draath and his monster army finds it. If he gets through, everything and everyone on the planet will end up either dead or under his control. Aria comes up with her own idea to try and close the rift and gets her companions to follow her. They have a dangerous journey and must find the ‘key’ to closing the prison again and keep everyone in it. Another more powerful Dreamwalker wants her to do as she says, but Aria decides to do it her way.
Dag’draath tries to communicate with her in her sleep (her dreamwalks), and sends creatures after her and the group. He seems to know where she is at all times. The creatures will continue killing people along their route, unless Aria and Beru agree to crash down all the walls of the prison. Aria is getting closer to Beru and believes he can’t be the traitor everyone portrays him as. Everyone he knew is long dead and the only person he knows now is Aria. Have his decades in prison with nothing to think of but his dead family, deadened his soul for eternity? They are the key to closing the rift and the prison and need to trust each other.
Another good read in the Legends of The Fallen series. I found the start a bit choppy and it took me a while to get back into the story as it had been a while since I read the first book and the prequel. It picks up pace as they have to travel over various lands and use their strengths to get money for horse, supplies and for other reasons. Aria has been driven away from her remaining family and community due to her actions and it seems other villages will either love or hate the group. Their lives are in peril from monsters, those in power, demons and even giants.
A good, but far too short, interlude where the ‘key’ may or may not have been found and Aria gains more control over her ‘gift’. Her group of companions have stuck with her so far, Astor is still proving to be a wimp, but the sudden change in feelings between Aria and Beru could be more dangerous. The story doesn’t really go too far into specifics, it is more of a road trip, with monsters, elves and others to contend with. Hopefully the third book will be a bit longer and fill out the story a little more. I think you would definitely need to have read the other book(s) to understand the start of this book, as even as one that had, it was a difficult start. The ending has been left somewhat up in the air, leaving Aria to heal Beru from the inside out, from torturous past to ‘lost’ present. Not as good as the first one and the prequel, but I hope book three, Soul Healer, will ramp up the storyline. I received an ARC copy of the book from the authors and I have freely given my own opinion of the story above.
I had really enjoyed book 1 in the Dreamwalker series however I found this, book 2 to be a bit too much in that it overwhelmed the reader with monsters, the widow and her spiders, the elves city in the clouds, the flying boats surrounded by dragons and other avians, the light woman and the temple island with priestesses, giants, and old witch and so much more. Aria is being ostracised by everyone she meets, starting from her family and the communities our team of friends travel through on their way to find the light woman in order to close the rip in the Dag Draath's prison through which monsters were already escaping! Beru does not remember much about his past and seems to draw away from Aria when she tries to make him remember, however she just knows that the two of them have to close the rip! The story is good but the fact that we got all these fantasy creatures thrown at us in one book is a bit too much and as yet nothing is resolved, on the contrary the book stops at another cliff hanger! The world building about Bruhier and the Temple Island is quite breathtaking and Sade, Astor and Iri's loyalty towards both Aria and Beru warms the heart, not once have they wavered in their support no matter how difficult the going became.
Book two in the Legends of the Fallen series brings many adventures for Aria. With her band of fellow travelers, they meet up with some awfully creepy creatures. They manage to stay just barely a step ahead of them. If you were one of those people who liked the black widow spider in Lord of the Rings, then you’ll love this book. This tale also includes a little bit of the Robin Hood story as well. And what would this book be without the wonderful characters. They are becoming my friends. I especially got a few giggles out of some ladies that Aria met while dream walking in a treasury’s vault. Shortly thereafter, Aria’s group came upon a fantastical world of elves. They were hoping to find answers in their quest to find a key that would help them repair a tear in the prison walls. Their experiences in that world were inspiring and heavenly but held no answers for them. However, they did find clues in the next city they visited, a temple on an island which was magical. I would highly recommended that you read and experience this story for yourselves. It is an adventure you will never soon forget.
This is a series that has a winey, tantrum throwing, stubborn, childish, teen as the protagonist. one of the authors also changed details from the first book to the second which drove to distraction. Including how many children the other main character had in the first book which was one small child that multiply to 3 in the second book and other irritating detail changes from book 1 to book 2. I personally can't read books by 2 author when one or both do not pay attention to details from one book to the next. If not for this and a point where the writing style changes in each book, it could have been an excellent read in fantasy. I'm sad to say that I am done with J.A.Culican and her series. Also done w u think the co-author. Sorry to be so picky about details but all details make a story worth reading.
Absolutely loved this book. The storey flows nicely and i read the book in its entirety with out putting it down. Aria is realising that although she wanted an adventure that its harder than she thought it would be, Plus by freeing Beru she caused more damage than good that she needs to put right. A new enemy surfaces for Beru & Aria to fight so as you would expect there is lots of action but at the same time this book expands a lot on the Characters so you get to know and understand them in more detail. Great world building as you would expect from J.A. Culican and a very enjoyable read. Looking forward to the next instalment with interest as I really want to see how this storey play out.
The Adventure continues after Aria Saved Beru from prison. Now there is a tear in the prison and Dag'draath might get out. Others will find the way too. Nothing has been going right, Aria is lost on what to due. Everything try does not seem to work, now we have other things attacking. Can Aria and her friends fix the prison? Can her friends stay with her as things go wrong? Why is she dreamwalking to the prison? Can she trust Beru? What are the feelings she is having for Beau? Can she save the villiages? I recieved a free copy for my honest review.
Aria has an unintended adventure. Instead of leaving the life of a healer to become a warrior, she has become a thing of legends, a dream walker....with no training she has unleashed things better left alone, but will destroy the land and people she loves. She must learn to control her powers, and stop the evil spreading to her land. The characters are well written, the story line continues until she finds a way to undo what she’s done.
This wonderful series just gets better and better. I am so enjoying this magical journey, I don’t want it to end, ever. A most awesome story. Sorry this is short and sweet but it’s a must read.
I freakin’ loved Dreamwalker, the first book in J.A. Culican and Tanya Dawson’s Legends of the Fallen series. I’ve been salivating for book 2 and now that it’s here I’m delighted to report that Spell Breaker (Book 2) , despite the change in coauthor (to H.M. Gooden), is equally freakin’ fantastic. Aria may indeed be having “the adventure of a lifetime” that she craved but this wonderfully convoluted yet superbly written and easy to follow exciting adventure is just the story I’ve been craving. Aria and Beru’s story is a great one that will satisfy the need of anyone who read book 1. For newcomers though I’d strongly urge you to start with that first book (which I separately reviewed). As for Spell Breaker, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed, I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
