Ugh, an example of a competently-written product of its era. The hero and heroine have premarital sex, which verges on rape (she says no until she says yes); the hero turns out to be the heroine’s boss; the hero’s fiancee shows up but turns out to be his ex-fiancee; the heroine realizes the fiancee is mentally ill and is overwhelmed with sympathy for her; etc. The setting is great and the writing is fine - particularly when describing nature - but the characterizations and the plot are just kind of awful.
It was ok read liked the h, but hated her cousin mandy, am sorry but she didn't come across as playful or full of life more like person who doesn't understand rules and boundaries and will do anything like interefering with other's life irrespective of consequences in the name of fun.
4 ½ Stars! ~ This book was a very pleasant surprise! Not only was the setting, glorious British Columbia, a treat, but the characters were people I want as my friends. Charity is a little burnt out after completing her internship as a medical doctor, and a summer working at a world famous resort as a waitress seemed just the ticket to help her deal with the stresses. Only she hadn't planned on being attracted to her boss, Matthew and that he'd feel equally attracted in return. These two are such rounded characters, I could feel their confusions and heartfelt emotions. This book not only surprised because of the richness of the story and characters, but the sensuality level was more in tune for a Harlequin Temptation, as the bedroom door was definitely open. This book was a used book store find, and I know I'll be keeping my eye out for more finds by Ms. Wilder!
