Austin Cavanaugh came all the way to San Francisco to tell Clea a joke. Clea Bannister--good old Clea--had unknowingly been Mrs. Austin Cavanaugh for the past seven, years. She wasn't amused. She'd always loved Austin. She still loved Austin. But she wasn't fool enough to tell him. If he ever knew, he'd split his sides laughing.
Clea maintained her calm while Austin amused himself by poking his nose into her business affairs and checking out her fiance. But when Austin announced that he liked being married and intended to stay that way, he carried the joke too far.
Anne McAllister has written nearly 70 romance novels for Tule Publishing and Harlequin Books.
She has won two RITA awards from the Romance Writers of America — for COWBOY PRIDE and THE STARDUST COWBOY — and has had nine other books which were RITA finalists.
Her books have also been finalists for the National Readers’ Choice Award. She was named Midwest Fiction Writers “Writer of the Year” and also received Romantic Times’ Career Achievement Award as “Series Author of the Year.”
But while the awards and sales are wonderful, Anne thinks the best part of writing is telling the story. With every new book she writes, she meets new characters – or gets to know old ones even better – and discovers what makes them and their relationships tick.
It’s the relationships that interest her most and the question about “where do you get your ideas?” has always astonished her as she has more ideas than she knows what to do with!
Hero finds out that his marriage never ended in a divorce and goes to track down his old friend who was kind enough to marry him so that the hero could get his money to follow his dreams but what he finds is that the heroine has changed, she runs her own dream business and is engaged to be married and not at all willing to give it another shot. She is not at all happy to have him barge into his life because the it took the heroine a long while to get over him because she loved him despite them agreeing to remain married only for a year and the hero has to really work hard to get her back. Overall I liked a heroine who had moved on and who took her time to decide who she wanted to be with.
This story line comes pretty close to my worse nightmare... finding out that I'm still married to that Jacka$$ I divorced a decade ago! What a terrible thing to even think up so I'm seriously doubting the sanity of this author. Clea Bannister is much nicer and more understanding then I ever was. She still has amicable feelings for her alleged ex-husband Austin Cavanaugh. Austin comes to San Francisco to tell Clea that he was just informed that they are still married when their divorce turns out to be faulty (is that even possible?) so for the past seven years they have been married and now he's interested in staying that way. This was a sweet second chances romance with lots of romance and no sexy scenes (but it wasn't missing because there was lots of emotional cathartic moments to fills the story). Austin was a sweet guy and I'm not surprised that he never let himself fall in love, he was totally clueless about himself and the people around him. There were no cell phones interrupting or internet surfing so I'm guessing this is a 90's romance because there is lots of planes. 253 pages 2 stars
This is book goes to my favorite books of all time shelf.
The story is brought my emotions into a wild roller-coaster. Th story of divorced couple knowing that they were really not divorced is very interesting. I also love the sweet events that made them realize how they still love each other and try to fix their marriage. The conflict of the wife having a fiance is very thrilling. It would make you want to know how she would resolve it with her fiance.
For those looking for steamy scenes don't bother reading this book because this book is all about sweetness and long lasting love. Nothing about the horrible hi-hello-bang lets get married that's famous these days.
