The Dayne Game: Ron Dayne and the Greatest Day in Wisconsin Football History

Rate this book
The University of Wisconsin football program has enjoyed its share of memorable moments, great players and legendary coaches during its nearly 120-year history. But Badger football had never seen and hasn't since experienced again a day like November 13, 1999, when so many elements converged to form the most exhilarating and satisfying day in the program's history. It was the day that running back Ron Dayne ran into the college football record books as the NCAA all-time leading rusher. It was a game that clinched the second of back-to-back Big Ten titles. It was an uncommonly warm, late fall afternoon that Wisconsin football fans refer to simply as "the Ron Dayne game." And it was a day that helped propel Dayne on to the 1999 Heisman Trophy as college football's outstanding player.

If you love sports, (especially football) you will love the book "The Dayne Game" by Justin Doherty. I love sports, especially Wisconsin sports, so I immediately found this book very interesting. The author, Justin Doherty, does a great job of describing the journey Ron Dayne had to take to become the 1999 Heisman trophy winner, and NCAA all-time rushing yard leader. A story about courage, dedication, and hard work, that all adds up to describe Ron Dayne's journey to become what he is known for today.
Ron Dayne played for the University of Wisconsin Badgers' starting football team, from 1996, to 1999. When Ron won the Heisman Trophy (a trophy that represents hard work and dedication to the sport of football) in 1999, he was drafted by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2000 National Football League's first year player draft. He played for the Giants until he was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2004, where he would play for one year, then was traded to the Houston Texans, then retired after his 2007 season. The book mostly covers his college football career, and shows the dedication it takes to become a pro NFL running back.
There are lots of big moments in this book, but the biggest ones for me were, when Ron Dayne broke the NCAA all-time rushing record, and gave the Wisconsin Badgers the big ten conference championship. Another one is when the Badgers win the 1999 NCAA college football championship.
So overall I think this is a great book because, how good of job the author does of adding in details of how hard it was for him to be where he ended up. It captured so many of the big moments in his career, and overall showed what it took to become who he is.

In the book The Dayne Game, the author’s craft move is symbolism because the symbol is the Heisman trophy. The Heisman trophy is one of the symbols in the book because he won the Heisman trophy by leading the Wisconsin Badgers to the rose bowl on November 13, 1999. The theme is to never give up because he never gave up to get the Heisman trophy and leading the Badgers to the rose bowl. The First Team and Th Dayne Game are the same because they both were dealing with a football star. The differences between both were that Ron Dayne’s mom didn’t die but in The First Team the kid’s mother died.
