Someone had killed Melly Warren. Melly herself had let them know when Mike brought her to meet Jack & Jamie. She knew that her killer had most likely been her husband. Seemed like a simple case, right? Domestic violence, arrest the husband, case closed. Not so much. When Jack and Jamie think they've got the case in the bag, everything gets upended with a twist even Mike didn't see coming. Just when you think you've got the killer dead to rights, you find out there's a whole lot more going on and the list of dead - and killers - gets a whole lot longer.
As with the others I loved the way everyone interacted with, lifted up, and helped each other. The story was interesting throughout and as always I appreciate the concepts of found family and friendship in this too. I feel endeared to the characters because they have proper depth.
There were a few downsides that the other two instalments didn’t have. Jamie did act a bit out of character with Santana in this one and that was unfortunate, but Jack and everyone’s reactions saved it mostly. And the romances are starting up which feels a bit forced and something I was hoping to avoid as it hadn’t been a big thing until now, and the characters had mentioned they weren’t looking at the moment. They write other relationships so well, but it seems the love subplots for the main two just aren’t it. I hope they won’t become more of the foreground in future books.
Overall still really looking forward to reading more of the series.
an old movie sparks a killing spree among the wealthy. Its up to Kennedy and Forbes to learn the truth and expose the killer. Melly Warren believes her husband killed her, he was abusive and regularly raised his hand to her and her kids. Instead of crossing over, she remains to protect her children. While Kennedy and Forbes are outcasts at the police department, they need to decide if its time to move on. Can cops become private investigators without trouble. Or will trouble always follow Kennedy and Forbes.
Like the first two books in this series, this was a great read. There are twists and turns, and whatever you predict might happen next will be wrong. Can't wait to read the next book!
How many ghosts can investigators handle at once? This book has a fairly good sized body count that ramps up the mystery. Lots of changes happen in this book too, but seem to be positive. Enjoy!
