La Cazzaria is the most outspoken erotic text of the Italian Renaissance-a ribald dialogue about politics, sex, and desire. The book is remarkable for its frank discussions of sexuality and explicit homoeroticism-especially when compared to other writings of the period-and for its sophisticated treatment of sexual and political power.
"The truth is this: [women's] assholes cannot strictly be called assholes, but belong to the cuntish species, and they were given to women so that when they are pregnant sperm will not be cast on top of sperm, thus creating a monster with too many heads or too many legs, as we have sometimes seen happen through the carelessness of those who, when a woman is pregnant, do not know they should go in her asshole, that is, in that smaller cunt. And this is the reason, Sodo, why monstrous creatures are born with more limbs than they ought to have."
I'll be honest, most of the review is also just entertainment factor, because I have no idea what the fuck this book was, honestly. It's a window into history, but also a young Italian man being extremely, unfathomably gay in a series of odd fantasies and explanations to his friend. Was it misogynistic? Incredibly. Was it also somehow homophobically gay? Also yes. Was it really fucking funny to read and send updates on to my boyfriend? Entirely. So, overall, a fascinating look into history, and a 'what?' kind of read altogether.
