Mordecai is the newest student in Mr. Grizley's class. Before he even gets a chance to introduce himself, it is time for the school assembly. The class barely gets settled to watch a magic show when they get some bad news--the magician had to cancel. Can Mordecai work some of his own magic to save the school show?
Will Mordecai, the newest student in Mr. Grizley's class, be able to save the school's magic show?
Mr. Grizley may otherwise be a great elementary school teacher, but he really demands that each student creates - and displays -- a "Talent Poster"?
Life doesn't have to be about performing. What is Mr. Grizley teaching? Exactly what this storybook teaches, that performing in a show matters more than everything.
I couldn't disagree more vehemently.
RATING THIS BOOK
My policy, though, in reviewing any book is to rate it in terms of the intended readership. On their behalf, I'll give this performing story FIVE STARS. That still won't make me like it.
9/1/2024 ~ A series from the perspective of each child in a class. I've read 4 of the books. Each seems to have a strong theme of working as a community (class & beyond). The teacher, Mr. Grizley, emphasizes working together and supporting each other. As an early reader with a bit more text than some and with weightier issues (i.e. homelessness in Bobby's Story), this series will work well for older readers who still need the shorter stories common in Early Readers. I'll add some of the titles to my elementary library and see how kids connect with them.
