What can I say but that I loved this book. It was really hard to put down due to the creativity of the Author, and the humor of his writing.
The protagonist is a detective who is forced to resign after his partner goes missing, and he becomes obsessed with searching for him. He loves his partner like a father and keeps searching for him via his new private investigator agency. After two years of searching things go weird. He discovers via a good witch/demon that there are evil demons trying to bring about the apocalypse.
There's action, humor and magic that will make you get hooked on this novel. I can't wait to read the next book!

The Judgement Day
Whether you believe in it or not …
… will come
You will be called on your Karmas
So better watch your actions.

Well, that is not happening any sooner now. So, relax and sit back on your couch with the coffee. Because you are going to delve into the mysteries of the opening of seven Seals.
The immensely captivating story of Detective John and the Witch-demon Beth was filled with adventure and magic, fighting with demons and fallen angels and a lot.
The story has its base from the bible i.e. The Judgement Day and the Seven seals Revelations. Which I learned about them after reading in this story.
And when a story has all these things, I always fell harder for them.
Blurb- So it all started when John and his partner Walter went to catch their only lead in the kidnapping case.
But things go upside down. When John loses his father figure partner, Walter.
From that day on, his real investigation started. Where he learned about his family history and the actual goal of his life.
Story plot- The plot grows beautifully. The only scene I didn’t get was the last war between fallen angels, demons, and witches. The chapter was small yet captivating.
Character Development- As all characters were already in their 30s or much older than that. They were already mature in their actions.
The only change I see was in John. He went from a well-organised person to a most disorganised.
What I like about this novel was its continuity throughout the chapters.
Thank God the magic used in this novel was not that dark.
The story was face-paced. The author didn’t waste time in describing very itty-bitty details.
I wish the author talks more about the history of John Gideon and the war.
Warning- The story ends on a cliffhanger. Now we have to wait for the next part.

‘December in Chicago is a crazy time’ – a truly fine new dystopian novel!

Illinois author Carl Novakovich is both a writer and a musician, and he makes his literary debut with THE WATCHERS: THE TOMB, stating ‘The is the first book of this dramatic series which will reflect our reality.’ Carl writes to ‘bring a little peace to this ever-dividing world, showing that everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from, can find some common ground, and relate to a story in one way or another.’

Carl’s ability to capture our attention immediately is evident in the opening lines of this excellent novel – ‘Please stop what you’re doing. Look around you. Wherever you are in this moment, please pay close attention. Your neighbors, the people that might be walking by, your spouse – are they who you think they are? I ask you this because what I’m about to tell you will open your eyes to the truth of the world. As you continue reading, you will not be able to unsee the truth. However, I beg you not to stop reading because the world has already changed, but I guarantee that you have yet to see why. Not just of the people involved in this story, but for you as well. This is not my story; I’m just helping it along. In fact, this is not a story at all. I’ll be chiming in from time to time, as well as a couple friends of mine, to tell you the rest. Understand that what you are about to hear will change your life forever…’ Few readers will be able to resist this invitation!

The story line – ‘John Gideon, a former homicide detective turned P.I., has dug too deep and discovered the truth about the world while searching for the only family he has left. John and his new partner, Beth May - a spell wielding demon who has turned her back on Hell - are humanity's last hope to stop a collective of Fallen Angels known as The Watchers and a hierarchy of demons from breaking the first of the Seven Seals of Revelation. If the Seals are broken, they will set free sickness, war, and death on the world until there is nothing left but an apocalyptic wasteland for The Watchers to control. John and Beth have the tools needed and the strength to stop them. The only question is - are they already too late?’

Carl’s ability to create well-define characters is already polished – both in the present time and the ‘before’ time – managing to relate this immersing tale with different voices. Real people, Fallen Angels, and demons leap off the page with equal credibility – and that seems to be a driver for this new author: question reality! As the initial volume in a series, this book introduces not only a fine new author, but also a series well worth following. Recommended.

Thanks to the author and Booktasters for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a unique story of good vs evil with elements of an adventure/science fiction/fantasy. The narrative is easy to follow and the story does not suffer from pacing issues; the author just gets straight to the point all the way though the book. You are simply reading and enjoying the story and before you know it you're on the last page. The characters are very well written and sympathetic so you enjoy following them on their mission which takes then to a different world. The story left an a good note that also leaves you wanting the sequel.

It's been really long that I read something like this, the cover and title caught my attention and ever since I waited to read this amazing book. This is a story that will not just shock you but it will play with your mind and will definitely keep you intrigued till the end. The storyline is a blend of thrill, fanatsy with the dystopian apocalyptic world, I loved how scary it turned at times and it kept me guessing because it was too uncertain to be predictable. It's not a war between evil or good, demon or human, rather it's a classic war between two teams amongst them one is strong - mighty and other side we have Beth & John who are out of the box characters.
.
.
The storyline is very interesting as well as incredible. I feel this is a book that will pick intrest of readers of all age groups, if you are interested in reading fast paced, thrilling, well written and action filled plot, this is something you should not miss. It's something that I completed in much less time than I expected because of curiosity!
.
.
I definitely enjoyed it and I'm sure everyone who wants something new and different than what we usually read in terms of apocalypse or action, go for it. Definitely recommended.

The Watchers: The Tomb by Carl Novakovich is a spellbound short novel that is just the beginning of a fight for humanity. John Gideon was an organized and skilled detective working in the great city of Chicago. He leaves the police force shortly after his partner and adopted father, Walter, disappears. John knows the last case they worked on is the key to Walter's disappearance. Two years later, he still isn't any closer until the suspect is spotted. John steps forward to gather information, and his life changes forever.

I found The Watcher: The Tomb to be mesmerizing as I followed John Gideon through grief, resolve, and revenge. Carl Novakovich is a gifted author that presents a page-turning novel. His descriptions of events and vivid characters make your fantasy run wild. I am assuming there will be another book to continue and fix what has started.

Reading this book was loads of fun. The narrative has a delightful, cheeky feel to it. Sometimes feeling like a memoir, other times feeling cinematic in the perspective shifts. I enjoyed the characters very much, and the interactions, on the whole, felt very natural and relatable. The one drawback I had was the latter half felt a little rushed, so scenes that should have felt more emotionally impactful fell a little flat for me. I wanted to see more, get to know some of the other characters more, see relationships fleshed out more. The story left off on a good, yet intense note (I have a certain theory running through my head about one of the characters), and I am looking forward to the sequel.

I love reading books which take me to a different world where I feel lost!
A unique story where you will meet the evil and good. The Watchers and a group of Demons who are trying to break the first of the seven seals of revelation. On the contrary, the characters John Gideon and Beth May have their mission to stop a collective of Fallen Angels known as The Watchers and a hierarchy of demons from breaking the first of the Seven Seals of Revelation because if these seals were broken, it will have some really bad consequences. John and Beth are really strong characters and they possess the strength to stop them. As the story progresses, you will see how the story takes you to a different world.

What sold me most was how deeply I fell in love with the characters. Every character is so beautifully portrayed and fully human, and I know they'll stay with me for a good long time. Also the tension in this book is through the roof. It's one of those books where you tell yourself you're going to stop for a while, then you give in and read one more chapter because you can't stop THERE, and then somehow two hours have passed. The absorbing plot and engaging characters kept me enthralled.

The plot of this book is unique, original and to the point. Every single word means something, and that's one of the things I really liked about the book. The plot has many twists too, something I rarely find in nowadays stories. I get frustrated when I invest time into a book and then realize that there is no plot whatsoever, only characters and endless pages of description. This book is the exact opposite!

A unique storyline mentioned in the book description forced me to get my hands on this book. Its really difficult to describe in words, how much I enjoyed this novel and how much I liked the plot. The blurb was exciting and that made me read the whole book in one sitting. The story is unique, full of unexpected events and suspense that kept me interested till the end.

The story is based on a situation where you will meet The Watchers and a group of demons who are trying to break the first from the seven seals of revelation. On the other hand, you will meet John Gideon and Beth May who are trying to save the world from their evil ideas.
In the beginning, I thought I won't be able to finish this book but after reading some pages I found this book so interesting and my curiosity to know more and more increases.

The story behind it is superb. It’s about everything that is going on in the world around us. Anyone can find something to relate to in this story.
This is a fantastic novel where the plot was well created with good character development. It is very well-researched and well-written. The writing style is simple and easy to catch. I am really impressed how the author has maintained the excitement in this book. The characters are well described and well developed. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Wow, what an amazing book. The characters, the story, the setting, the plot, everything is so perfect and is according to my reading taste. I was totally absorbed in it and couldn't put it down.

The story is about John Gideon and Beth May and their mission to stop a collective of Fallen Angels known as The Watchers and a hierarchy of demons from breaking the first of the Seven Seals of Revelation because if these seals were broken, it will have some really bad consequences. John and Beth are really strong characters and they possess the strength to stop them. As the story progresses, there is a lot to know about the story that will keep you interested till the end.

I won't say much about the plot, except to say there's something so interesting to read for everyone and ever in this book makes sense. I loved the whole atmosphere surrounding the book, and all the little details the author provided.

If you haven’t read this book, I have to insist you pick it up right away. It was a fantastic read. Meet John and Beth and see whether they will be able to finish their mission. Highly recommending this 5+ star read to everyone.

I, Zombie, Supernatural, and The Originals rolled into one...

Jax is a detective whose mentor and partner, Walter, worked to find his mother when she went missing when Jax was a child. Now they’re trying to solve another missing person’s case. They apprehend the suspect, Steve, but that night Steve and Walter go missing. Two years later, having left the police force to dedicate himself to finding Walter, Jax finally gets a lead. Steve resurfaces.

This story has multiple POVs which keep it interesting. The characters and story line are well written, have depth, and are unique. I enjoyed the banter between characters and growth in their relationships. If you like supernatural mystery, then this is your book.

The cover of this book looks really attractive and attracts in the first place. The title is apt for this book.

Coming to the plot the story is about John Gideon who is a former assasin sherlock who is now a police inspector. He joins hands with a charismatic demon Beth May.They both are only hope of the mankind.
Humanity will witness an apocalypse if Watchers and ladder of demons succeed in their evil idea. There will be spread of diseases, war, mortality and lot of worse events. To know if the two fighters will be able to save the mankind, you need to grab this book!

Overall a really intriguing story Which keeps you gripped till the end. The narration done by the author is smooth with an amazing writing style. The charecterisation is superb and all of them are developed really well.
The language is not very hard to understand so everyone can read it. I really can't wait for the next part! Highly recommended from my side without a second thought!

Thank you so much to the author Carl Novakovich for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

4.75⭐

It was a wonderful read. The plot was so compelling from the get go that you can't stop reading. The characters are charming and relatable in many ways. I enjoyed so much the interweaving of supernatural facts in the history of our world.

This is a really fast paced short novel that traps you the minute you start reading.

It begins with a case of disappearences and it shifts to a so much more complex plot that keeps changing until the end. The very end leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

The satisfaction you get after the final completion of the story is just incredible, sometimes you are really happy with the ending and sometimes you feel it could have been better but when complete you heart is just satisfied.

📝Starting with the title of the book , Being a relevant one to the story the title also has the feature that is easy to understand and remember whereas the best one is that after the viewer reads the title for the first time it gives a certain curiosity to read more about it. The cover on the other hand compliments the title so I would say that the outer appearance of the book is really the one which attracts the viewer to buy and read it.

📝The story is about the former sherlock assailant John Gideon who's an inspector of the police. He joins his hands with Beth May, a charismatic demon. The watchers and a group of demons trying to break the first of the seven revelation seals. You meet John Gideon and Beth May, who are trying to save the world from their evil concepts.

📝This book certainly is a wonderful reading. Also, the language and the words were used were normal and was a normal length read but worth it. The structure was really, simple, making it easy to understand, and the illustrations are also fantastic.

📝The flow while reading the book was smooth. Talking about the words and the language used in the book, in terms of difficulty I personally did not face any difficulty while reading the book. Whereas the choice of words is something that gives a flow while reading and it was awesome.

In the name of transparency, this book was sent to me for review. Thanks a lot to Carl and his team for reaching out!

The first thing I'd like to talk about is Beth. Because I really liked Beth. She's fast moving, sharp minded and as exasperated as I would be in her place. The characterisation is well done generally, and of all the characters, Beth is the best.

John, whose head we spend the most time in, is unfortunately not as well done in my opinion. I found his personality comparatively grating, his jokes and remarks about his partner Walter's weight more mean-spirited than "between friends", despite what John insisted in his internal dialogue. I found some parts of his charactersation unrealistic; for him to be changeable, and I struggled to connect with him because of it, unlike Beth, who I hit it off with immediately.

That being said, I enjoyed the initial chase scene featuring John and antagonist Steven. The action scenes were all pretty well written. They must be one of Carl's strong suits, because they flew by. Pacing, check. Description, check. In fact, over all, the plot is a compelling one. It's nothing that hasn't been done before but thanks to the author's unique vision, it still manages to ring as fresh and different. It being a novella, clocking in at 24k words, it manages to cover a lot of ground and clearly sets up the series that is to come.

I struggled with the prose. Some sentences were over-complicated, while a rare couple I was unable to decipher the meaning of. ("...there aren't many people there at this time of night. However, one shouldn't stand out, but John doesn't notice her. [...] She seems to be watching John." So did he notice her or didn't he?)

The cover art, featuring Beth, inquisitive and ethusiastic, and John, nervous and panicked, is fantastic and really puts across the intentionally slightly-ridiculous tone of the novella. If you decide to pick it up for yourself, I do think you'll struggle to put it down until you're done, my issues with it aside.

Thanks again to Carl Novakovich and his people for sending it to me! #thewatcherstheseries

For John Gideon, homicide detective turned private investigator, there is only one case that is really important. For years, he has been looking for a lead in the mysterious disappearance of Walter Finch, John’s partner in the Chicago Police Department and his father figure. When the long awaited break finally comes, he realizes that everything he has believed in is unreal. Along with an unlikely ally, a witch turned demon, John sets out to defeat an evil far bigger than anything in his wildest dreams.

The characters of John and Walter are extremely engaging, with endearing quirks and an impressive refusal to back down before staggering odds. The story, mostly told by John in a tone of quiet irony, unfolds in surprising twists and turns.

Along with John, we unpeel the many layers of the mystery surrounding John’s family and Walter’s disappearance. The author creatively constructs a world beyond the world we see everyday, populated by demons, fallen angels and a terrifying plot to let loose hell on earth.

With aspects of fantasy, mystery and horror, this would be an engrossing read for fans of all these genres, or anyone looking for an engaging story with unpredictable plot twists and complex characters.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and chose to leave this review.

The Tomb (The Watchers) is such a fun, fast paced read! I loved it and could not put it down. I enjoyed how the author took something biblical and turned it into such an amazing story. I am excited to read the next book in this series.

John is a cop in Chicago along with his friend/father figure Walter. They are on the hunt for all these people that keep coming up missing. The thing is the people have like no background information. When Walter comes up missing it will make John risk everything to find him.

It's when he meets a mysterious woman, Beth, who is also a witch and a demon, that things really pick up. He soon learns that there are demons in the city that are trying to break/release the seven seals of the Revelation. No one wants this to happen as it will cause total and destructive chaos in the world. Beth will reveal a lot of information about all this and John's family but she doesn't reveal everything to him. It's a battle of good versus evil in this fight for survival and a fight to save the world.

The author did an amazing job with this first novel. It was so fun to read and the romantic tension between John and Beth was well written. I loved the characters and the plot of the story. I am looking forward to reading the next installment of this series. If you love a good urban fantasy than I recommend you read this one!

Well this was a very fun and interesting ride for me! When John Gideon is investigating his good pal Walter's disappearance he find himself thrust into a world of intrigue, demons, and angels and discovers a hidden family secret he was never aware of.

I was extremely impressed with this book. All of the characters were well written and rounded and I especially loved John's unique voice.

While dealing with some dark subject matter it was written in a way to be lighthearted and has a very good balance of serious and humor.

If you love a good fantasy story I urge you to check this out. I will definitely be looking into more books in the future.

It begins.

John begins to investigate the disappearance of his partner and finds something that would terrify most people. Carl Novakovich has created the beginning of what I think will be an epic series. This one has rich characterization and and a plot I found to be intriguing. Each reader will find at some point they must suspend reality and just accept Carl's world till they get to the last page.

I loved the way this novel started, with this creepy, mysterious message in the beginning, warning the reader that nothing is what it seems and reading this will change your life forever.

We are first introduced to John and his partner Walter, two detectives with the Chicago Police Department, as they are on a stake out, waiting for suspect to show himself. Little do either of them know that this seemingly normal part of their jobs is about to change their lives forever.

Two years after Walter goes missing, John has left the force, started his own private investigator business and is obsessed with finding his old partner and friend. It’s not long before he gets swept up in a world he never believed existed. A world of angels and demons trying to release the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the Anti-Christ into the world.

This novel is fairly short, but it packs in a lot of stuff. Honestly, I think it needed to be padded out more, for the story and relationships to develop more. Don’t get me wrong, I liked this book, I just wanted more of it, to feel a deeper connection to the characters and really feel immersed in the world, to care about the impending danger. As it all happened so quickly, I didn’t get the feeling of being completely engrossed.

As this is only the first book in a series, I have hope for the development of the characters and the world building.

I must say, I think I like Beth the most. She was a witch as a human and became a demon after death and has now been alive for several centuries. For a demon, she extremely caring and compassionate towards the human race and the world. She cares about John, she cares about the fate of humanity. She obviously has a lot of history, having been alive for so long, and the author has only barely scratched the surface of who she is and what lies in her past. I’m really looking forward to her secrets being revealed in the coming sequels.

The point of view could be a bit confusing. It would switch from being in first person from John’s perspective to Beth’s perspective and then to a third person unknown “watcher.” I generally don’t like POV’s that jump around, but in this case I felt it worked.

The story has a great deal of potential to grow as the series continues. I look forward to reading the next novel.

My rating for The Tomb is 3 out of 5 stars. I’d recommend it to fans of urban fantasy, especially if it involves angels and demons, and to anyone looking for a fun, quick, but also very intriguing read.

My thanks to the author, Carl Novakovich, and the agent for providing me with a free copy of The Tomb in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Thank for reading!

Overall, this is a well-paced unique mix of genres that leads to a really cool concept. This is a quick read (in a good way!!) that's easy to keep up with. The writing style is definitely realistic and relatable, I do feel like I'm “in John's head” especially, so its a good narrator style mostly. I've never read a mystery/fantasy that starts out almost like a buddy-cop story that turns into a fantasy with demons and angels, what a cool idea! The stakes always feel high which is great, I always felt like there was something sinister simmering which is really important in something with this kind of 'thriller' pacing. Well done there!!

I think there are a few things keeping this from being as efficient and engaging as it could be. I'm personally not a fan of some of the descriptions of Walter especially in the beginning where John implies it's okay/an affectionate thing to make fun of him for being fat. Also, speaking generically to avoid spoilers -- I think there needs to be more buildup to why John is special and why it's good that he gets involved. As an overall thing, we get a lot of dialogue in the halfway point about his family, and it’s pretty disorienting and info-dump-y -- I wish that earlier on we got more hints/clues to his family's past (maybe he could have had weird heirlooms in his house when we get his house described to us, maybe he had strange talents/rituals as a kid that he brushed off as halloween parties but were actually a thing... any little hints or buildup would have helped a lot), but as it stands 50% of the way into this book feels a bit late to be learning this stuff and I found myself thinking, "lol where'd this come from" which took me out of the experience. Unfortunately there are kind of a lot of dialogue scenes like this -- where SUPER interesting, really cool details are told to us in huge chunks of dialogue. The action scenes are really good when they happen! Have more of this stuff told to us via those actions scenes!

There's a lot of potential here, and I especially think this would sound cool as an audiobook with this kind of narrator's voice -- with one more one-over in editing and some general restructuring, this would be really excellent.

I came away with a slightly different perspective than most of Mr. Novakovich's readers, but I was still pleased to have been asked to review the book.

I'll say up front that thrillers are not a genre that I normally read. keeping that in mind, my issues were far less concerned with personal reading preferences than the overall feel and writing of the text.

The first person POV in this story was jarring and pulled me out of the narrative. It was difficult for me to follow John's perspective. Sometimes he would be giving you a moment-by-moment play, and other times he'd be recalling the scene in past tense. He talked to the reader as though there was an active conversation happening--answering questions that he assumed the reader asked. It was bizarre. None of this is wrong, it was just very difficult to follow.

As a character, John was fairly one-dimensional. He was either on or off with his emotions. My guess is that his arc will be more developed in the following books. It's probably just me, and it's not the end of the world, but I find all the fat references about Walter a little distasteful. I could see what the author was going for, and the first couple did the job. But it went on far longer than needed.

Beth, in contrast, was a bit more compelling. Unfortunately, while her dialogue was obviously different, her inner voice wasn't. There were a couple of times I actually had to flip back because I wasn't sure who I was reading.

The Tomb hit every possible trope for an end-of-time story. Not much surprised me, but I did find the Chicago Fire of 1871 reference clever.

All of my criticisms being said, the book moved at a rapid pace. The length of the chapters was spot on for the scenes, and each chapter ended on a good cliff-hanger. It definitely held my interest.

I think the author has a knack for delivering a story that fans of this genre want to read. I do I truly appreciate being asked to review it. Writing any book takes an incredible amount of work and persistence. Asking for a review takes an insane amount of courage. Best of luck to Mr. Novakovich and his team!

I'm the kind of guy that reads in spurts rather then long sittings (such is life), but this book made that hard to do. It opens up into such a fast pace that I found it difficult to find a good stopping point. The entire book is fast paced, with little time for a reader to stop and catch their breath.

The description itself tells us that John has dug too deep, although mostly by accident. He mostly just falls head first into having to stop a group of demons from freeing the imprisoned Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Our main characters are John Gideon and Beth May. The story is written in first person, and alternates a bit between John and Beth to get each character's viewpoints. John's characters is well rounded and believable. We get to see a pretty balanced change to the character as he goes from highs to lows, to highs again. Beth was a really intriguing character, but I didn't feel she was presented as strongly as John was. Beth has ample room for backstory (which was briefly touched on, but there is plenty that could be expanded on).

I was really excited going into this story because I love anything dealing with The Book of Enoch. There was one flashback scene early on to the pre-flood world, and it was done really well...but that was the only one. I would have loved to seen more of that interwoven into the book.

I understand that this is an introduction to a series, so I know some of the character development and backstories are yet to be revealed. All in all, the only cons I have to this story is the lack of development on Beth. I will not let that affect my ratings though, in hopes that Beth is more developed in later installments. The story was gripping enough for me to come back for more in this series.

This was a quick and easy-to-read romp through an alternate version of current day Chicago – a version that includes a few demons and fallen angels, and the havoc that they can create.

Chicago P.D. detective John and his partner, Walter, are initially working on a missing persons case. There are a bunch of them from the past few years, and they have something in common – the missing person seems to have little to no history. So, finding leads has been hard. They finally catch a break, and bring in a suspect linked to one of the victims – but then Walter starts acting funny. Before that night is through, both Walter and the suspect are nowhere to be found.

John quits the force, and opens his own private investigation firm. But it’s mostly an excuse for him to spend all his time looking for Walter. A friend who still works at the P.D. gives him a lead that allows John to find the missing suspect again. He ends up finding a lot more, including people who seem to wield inhuman/magical powers.

Enter Beth, who has secretly been keeping an eye on John for years. She is actually over 100 years old, and first started protecting the city with the help of John’s great-great-great grandfather. His family line is important to protecting the demons from unleashing the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who are imprisoned underneath a city water pumping station.

The POV shifts around within the book, which I found a bit odd. But, not hard to follow. The action is quick and keeps the story moving at a good pace.

Thank you to the author for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

I thought the start of the book was already fascinating and caught my attention. The introduction of the MC was written down in a very nice way! Reading through the first few chapters is fun, there’s an occasional joke in there, making it easy and light reading.

We’re basically following John Gideon, a detective of the homicide and missing persons squad. He’s investigating several disappearances with another detective named Walter, who is like family and his fatherfigure, until Walter goes missing. Gideon turns PI, turns…. You can easily find out reading up on his past, present and see where his future will be.

Beth is another character being introduced that will help out John find his place in this world. She’s a magical being of sorts and has lived for centuries trying to prepare for what’s about to come.

Together they set out to stop the seals from being broken by the Watchers to release the Horsemen and bring upon the world damnation and bring forth the apocalyps.

In short it’s a quick paced story, a fun read and a short novel that doesn’t lack details. I love the interactions and the way the book is built up. Also absolutely love how the author made a dark story light reading. You will find there’s fallen angels and demons roaming this world. And omg that ending! I can tell you for sure: I want more :)

Novakovich’s The Watchers: The Tomb is a roaring good time practically guaranteed to make you laugh out loud, hold your breath, and groan in dismay. Sometimes all in the space of one page! Chicago Police Detective, John Gideon and his partner cum father figure, Walter are working multiple missing persons cases. One of which holds particular interest for them both, the case of John’s missing mother. When a suspect in these cases, Steven, is taken into custody, John and Walter find themselves catapulted into a world they never knew existed. A world of demons which operates alongside the human world, forever plotting and planning, to unleash Hell on earth.

With the aid of a witch-turned-demon, Beth, John learns his family has a historical tie to the battle to keep Hell in its rightful place. He also discovers that his mother’s disappearance is not only connected to the demonic designs but that CPD leadership is somehow “in on it.” Can Beth and John rescue Walter, solve the case of John’s mother’s disappearance, and save the world from possession?

Told in the first person omniscient, with occasional fourth-wall breaks, The Watchers: The Tomb is well worth the space on your calendar to read. I promise.

Unusual Approach, but it Works

If you like tales of angels versus demons, and good versus evil, with the future of the entire world at stake, then this book's for you.

However, if you like a traditional writing style in this somewhat overcrowded genre, then perhaps it's not. But that would be your loss. Vive la différence, and all that jazz!

I believe this is Carl Novakovich's first published novel, which is somewhat given away by a tendency to slip into "tell" mode, where a continuation of his otherwise excellent "show" would have kept the reader more firmly immersed in the story.

Different first-person points of view, all written in the present tense, is an unusual approach, but it works well, as the chapter headings tell us who's eyes we're seeing it through.

Overall, an entertaining ride, as we're helped on our journey by well developed characters and realistic dialogue. Not so much good writing as good storytelling, which is becoming an increasingly common factor nowadays.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. Would I read the sequel? Yes.

I ahh, think that I....I don’t know....I literally just finished this book and I’m at a loss of words to describe it. Was it brilliant? Yes! Was it fantastic? Yes! Was it worth the wait? Yes, yes, yes!! For me, this book shines, and to those of you who loved it, I imagine you are a bit like me. You found yourself immersed in an enticing world of Angels and Demons Carl has created here for us.
More importantly, the characters came so alive for me that they jumped off the pages. I felt as though I were in the story with them as opposed to merely following along in their journey.
The Watchers: The Tomb changed the way I look at fantasy novels. I am a huge fan now. I defiantly recommend this book for any hunger games, divergent, harry potter, and twilight fans out there. It is truly a fantastic series.
I think we all read to for some type of enjoyment. What evokes that enjoyment varies from reader to reader, but I still find excitement within these pages. To me, that is the mark of a fantastic book.
