The family fortune had been squandered--but without Abbey's knowledge--to attract a man of substance. And Condor blamed Abbey for her aging aunt and uncle's precarious financial footing.

If you like the "battle of the sexes" theme ( assertive feminist heroine vs chauvinistic alpha Hero) and constant bickering between the MCs, then this book is perfect. However, since I personally dislike this trope, I could not give it more than three stars as i found it difficult to feel the romance between the leads. Plus, the prose is a bit wordy and it took some time to ingest it. Nonetheless, the story entails an interesting travelogue of the valley of gold to the Amazonian forest where MR sets some scenes of adventure. I only wish that it was so debasing and the h proved such a masochist in spite of her pride. Plus, it was hard to sense any love on the Hero's part...there is also rhetoric concerning pale vs brown skin as i guess its to highlight the alieness of the english blonde heroine amidst sex craved brown men ..but you can think whatever... overall, the book is ok.
