A chronological history of the town of Colchester based on archaeological and written sources. Pre-Roman, Roman invasion, Boudiccan revolt, the development and decline of the Roman city throughout the first to fifth centuries, and concluding chapters on Colchester during the early and later medieval period. A great deal of effort has gone into the illustrations in this work including maps, aerial paintings of the evolution of the town, photos and diagrams - page space is not wasted. A carefully written and produced work.

An interesting book but one would need to be primarily interested in archeology to fully appreciate it fully.

Nicely explained, with excellent photographs and diagrams mapping the many Roman excavations conducted in Colchester up to the publication date of the book. A wonderful, informative resource!
