Not all broken hearts are beyond repair. Davis Jones finds the world to be chaotic and overwhelming, especially since his fiancé died. But as the owner of a small-town hardware store, he enjoys fixing what is damaged--his life excluded. Attempting to escape his demons, he visits his family where they are volunteering in Thailand. All he wants is to help others in relative peace and quiet. But the beautiful and gregarious service director has other plans. Chloe Rodgers has lived in Thailand for the past fifteen years. As the director of a service organization, she spends her time in remote villages, rebuilding when disaster strikes. But when an attractive volunteer arrives, she's torn between her philanthropic lifestyle and considering the possibility of building a life of her own. Davis and Chloe have spent so much time fixing other people's problems, that it will take a miracle repairing themselves enough to find the love they deserve.
This is the only one in the series that I didn't like. I personally didn't like Chloe. I thought she didn't work well together with Davis. Yes they were together in the end. However, I wish things had gone differently with how they chose their happy ending.
A clean romance where Davis, who has sensory and anxiety issues, travels to be with his family in Thailand. He learns so much about the country and the customs, as do we readers! Some of his anxiety comes from unresolved trauma over the loss of his fiancé and some is from never feeling like he fit in in his hometown. His sensory input overload issues, though, are (or should be) permanent character traits.
I'm giving this book 4.5 stars because I felt that a lot of his sensory-input overload issues were handily minimized simply by his deciding to face them. It didn't feel authentic to me. It was like he was made to fit the expected "hero" mold of most romance novels. I wanted him to keep his issues and find love regardless. But that is literally my only complaint...
Davis' relationship with his brothers is one of my favorite parts of the book, they wrestle and tease and truly act like brothers!
It was an interesting book with clean romance. The descriptions of Thailand were amazing and I truly felt like I had been introduced to the culture there. This one is easily my favorite of the series!
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
This wasn't your typical vacation romance hanging out on a beach or visiting all the tourist places. Davis was put to work as soon as he recovered from motion sickness with his parents, brothers, Chloe, Travis and the rest of the volunteers helping rebuilt a village in Thailand. I would enjoy helping with something like that, but I wouldn't enjoy sleeping in a tent off the grid without access to regular showers very long. I wonder if Davis is on the spectrum as he's highly intelligent, thoroughly researching hut building before he visited and he has sensory issues. Chloe was a bit prideful to tell him to stop in the middle of his work and not let him fix things that weren't done right. She is the founder and director, but she should be open to input especially if it makes their jobs easier and the work more effective. I loved that the book took me on an adventure off the beaten paths of Thailand with the elephant sanctuary and the children dosing them with water and baby power in celebration.
Davis is a sensitive person and a loner. He doesn't fit in Starlight Ridge, an exceptionally friendly beach town. He lost a fiance that no one even knew he'd had in a motorcycle accident.
He's a skilled repairman and runs a hardware store in town. His parents and much younger brothers have been volunteering in Thailand and he decides to go for a visit. He has some difficulty upon arrival, but then he lets his skills guide him.
He meets Chloe, who directs the program that the rest of the family volunteers for. They clash, but decide to accommodate each other.
The author has a great writing style and you're drawn into the story immediately. She takes us to Thailand and we learn things about the country that Davis, and probably most of us, never knew before.
The ending is more than satisfying.
I received an advance reader copy of this book. This is my honest review.
Davis Jones is managing the family hardware store in Starlight Ridge while his parents and brothers travel the world but being the Mr. Fixit for the town is not enough. The death of his fiancée has left him willing to overcome his fears and travel to Thailand to volunteer with his family at a service organization.
Chloe Rodgers finds the new volunteer confusing, capable, and very attractive but she cannot cross the line between boss and volunteer; no matter how tempting.
It was interesting how the book starts and ends in Starlight Ridge but is actually set in Cambodia; a nice change of pace. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!
This author is new to me, and listening to this audio was a great introduction to her. Davis Jones is a loner in the town of Starlight Ridge. Noise and chaos disturb him, and seem to have intensive after the death of his girlfriend. His parents and siblings are in Thailand doing volunteer work building homes in a village. To escape the chaos, he decides to visit his family. Never expecting to meet Chloe Rodgers , the director of the service organization. As Davis spends time in Thailand, helping the village, he realizes how much he missed his family. But he never thought that Chloe would touch his heart and change his life. This was a sweet, clean romance.
I enjoyed this story because it incorporates customs & life in Thailand into the love story. Davis has several issues he needs to be resolved before he can love again. Chloe wants to be the one to help him. His family also gets involved to bring them together. I believe Ms. Bellemore has lived in Thailand so brings her personal experiences into the story that makes it that much more enjoyable. An excellent addition to this series.
Building on Love, while part of the Starlight Ridge series, takes place mostly in Thailand. Davis and Chloe have been bruised by past loves. They butt heads when he works on the dwellings in her service project. This well written book tells the story of how they learn they need to repair themselves as well as the structures. This story grabbed me in chapter one and kept me reading far too late that night as I could not put it down.
The fourth book in the Starlight Ridge series a story that held my interest throughout. Davis Jones and Chloe Rodgers are two people who put others before themselves. They meet in Thailand when he goes there to spend time with his parents and brothers. I enjoyed seeing this story come together. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Building on Love is #4 in a fantastic, sweet series. This one is a bit different and took me on a picturesque journey of Thailand. The characters are interesting and realistic-I love that they are involved with a service organization. The author made the events, food, and scenery come to life in an authentic way. Side note, reading is a great way to travel during Covid restrictions.
A journey not only to exotic Thailand but to find himself. Davis has never fitted in Starligth Ridge, always being the odd one. But can Chloe show him what is really in his heart and where can find happiness and love? Great audiobook
Least favorite so far in series. I liked the main male Davis character, but I didn't like Chole much. She led Travis on just so she could have someone there. I hope Travis gets a happy ending he deserves.
