No. 1 Squadron of the RAF was formed in 1912 and has been in continuous existence from then until the present day. The authors have had the full backing not only of the Squadron Association but of the present-day Squadron itself. The authors bring a totally new approach to the unit's history with many first-hand accounts of both wartime and peacetime flying from the numerous personalities and characters who have figured in its history. Distinguished in both World Wars, the Squadron is still serving today in Bosnia.
Norman Leslie Robert Franks was an English militaria writer who specialised in aviation topics. He focused on the pilots and squadrons of World Wars I and II.
