Death By Advertising

Rate this book
(Short read - 30 minutes - 21 pages) Her closest friends didn't know she was dead. Until they saw the full page ad in the paper advertising her funeral. They mystery was in how she died. No corpse, just an urn filled with ashes that was distributed over the harbor without any witnesses. Shown by a slick video played at her funeral. No motive. Just a disappearance. The coroner's report from an upstate, rural county stated natural causes. For a young 20-something advertising executive. But there were no details left unaccounted for. Funeral arrangements paid for inadvance. Even the police chief said it was a closed case. That didn't stop Detective Johnson from being curious. He stopped in to see her partner to answer his many questions. On his own time. The day after the funeral. Get Your Copy Now. - - - - J. R. This is a 2.5 story read.

I just didn't gel with this short story. The blurb for the book was enticing, however, the execution fell far short. It was bogged down with advertising jargon, with an ending that left everything up in the air and therefore unsatisfying.

This book contains the title story plus two bonus stories, the last of which was really short but sweet. The first bonus story was ok but didn't really work for me though it was well written.

Sadly the main story was a let down as the blurb held so much promise which the story failed to deliver. Nothing really seemed to be resolved in a satisfactory manner and I was left thinking "Huh, what?"

By far the worst thing though was the appalling copy editing, or complete lack of, with typos, extra words, missing words, names spelled differently, surplus/missing punctuation etc. This always makes me think that if the author can't be bothered to check their work then why should I bother reading any more of it. A little proof reading would go a long way in this case.

The book summary is one of the best I've read of late. It piqued my interest and made me want to read it. That's why the book got a star from me. The book/story itself is so stupid that I've no words to describe it. Boring & a let down..

In the climate of fake news, are you dead if the newspapers say that you are?
Nobody knew that she had died and been cremated until the memorial announcement. A shock to her colleagues which leads to a police investigation.
Death? What death?

Received a free copy for a review. I was shocked to see all the bad reviews. I enjoyed the story and found it interesting. I guess I think differently then most people.

A fine short story. Unfortunately the poor copy editing spoils it. The author couldn’t decide between Johnson and Johnston?

Included in this book was another short story that I can't get out of my mind.
