Life hasn't been easy for Cady Caldwell, struggling first with her drug-addicted parents, then mistreated by the husband she though would be her savior. But there was always one thing that kept her protecting her younger sisters and ensuring their lives are happy. Escaping her abusive marriage, Cady is shunted off to the small town of Garrison, Montana, to live with a paternal grandmother she doesn't know, and doesn't want to. It seems that her two younger sisters, and an equally determined grandmother, are hell bent on looking after her. But can they get her to live again?

I'm a lover of the written word and imaginary worlds and have been from a very young age.

My first forays into writing were stories I wrote to amuse myself - since then I like to think my writing has matured - perhaps more than I have!

Reading is a passion, although I suspect I have far more books than I'll ever have time to read and collecting new books is a pleasant addiction and a fabulous time waster.

Writing is a joyful undertaking conducted with copious amounts of journals, planners and more pens than I'm willing to admit I've bought over the years. Suffice to say I own a multitude of shelves and pencil cases to store it all.

I adore pandas and penguins, elephants and manatees and fluffy butts of all varieties.

Life is taken up with the aforementioned occupations, plus life with the Darling Husband and our four adult children.

Filling up the last of my spare time are the two furry children; Mollie, a rescue Cane Corso/Mastiff and Stanley, the hyperactive American Staffy/Possible Catahoula.

And just in case there are a couple of minutes left over, the Darling Husband and I are planning to build our own house in the hills outside Perth, Western Australia during 2025/2026!

Tokens of My Confection follows Cady, a cake decorator who was raised by drug-addicted parents, who then went on to marry an abusive man. After he almost kills her, she escapes to Montana to live with her grandmother whom she doesn't know while the police search for her husband.

While there, she meets a charming man named Quinn. It takes her a while to warm up to him because of the lifelong abuse she's endured, but he gets her to share things with him and she begins to let her guard down.

There were times I felt Quinn was a little too pushy with getting her to confide in him. He had opened up to her and then said something along the lines of, "I shared this with you, so you should share this with me." But at the same time, he recognized when he made her uncomfortable in other situations and would ease up.

This was picked for our book club. I like the cover; it feels cozy. But it's not what I would consider a cozy story because of the descriptive domestic abuse. There wasn't much if any foul language that I can remember, and no descriptive spice.

Wonderful

I enjoyed reading this book so much. It has wonderful characters, good ones and bad ones and some just a little crazy, but isn’t that life. And in this book they all come together as the story is told providing love, fear and humour with a really good ending. Apart from a little blasphemy and crude thinking it’s clean.

Enjoyable froth with likeable characters and a predictable plot. Nothing amazing, but the writing flows well.

Loved it!

I was immediately pulled into this book from the first chapter. The depth of each character can be felt and makes you feel what they are feeling. Excellent writing!

It was a page turner

Even though the plot was fairly predictable, the characters and action kept my interest. Knowing the area in Montana it is set in was a plus.

Battered and abused she sought shelter with her unknown grandmother.
The healing started but her husband was still out there and she knew the next time around he will kill her!
A well written story line that will delight!
