One Night in Paris: A Novella

Rate this book

I've never been anywhere outside of my city. Hell, I've barely left my house in years. Being well over 400 lbs can sometimes do that in a society that hates fat people. But now that I'm 440 lbs down...200 lbs for me, plus another 240 when I dropped my verbally abusive ex...I'm ready to go on an adventure I've waited my whole life to take. Go big or go home, right?
A trip down the wrong street, and I stumble upon a protest on my first trip to Paris. I turn to make my escape. Only to come face to face with a line of heavily armored French police. My brain tells my feet to flee as fast as they can take me. My kind doesn't always fare well with cops in situations like these. Unfortunately, it's just not my day. Or so it would seem.
In my haste, I collide right into the arms of the enemy. But is he really? I don't remember enemies having a smile like that. With eyes like a cat, that sparkle with mischief and pleasures untold. And a body Michelangelo would weep over. I could lose myself in a face and body like that. And I've never lost myself to anyone before.

I was just trying to do my job. The day should've been heavy and tense. It was…but for all the wrong reasons.
My body tensed. Not because the protest had escalated. But because of the animal instinct inherent in my sex. I am the predator and she is the hunted. I'm ready for the chase.
My heart feels heavy. Not because of the anger running through the city that is rightly felt, which I can't admit to anyone. But because it already feels the weight of her within, and yet she's never spoken a word to me.
She is not what I should want. Not what I should crave. But the promise in the dark depths of her pretty eyes, made me forget my surroundings.

I shouldn't want him.
I can't want her.
We are too different.
We are worlds apart.
In every way.
In every way.

Yet…I can't resist the pull. So, tonight, I will give all of myself. Mind, body, and soul. This hotel room will be filled with secrets. Told and performed behind its walls. We won't speak of tomorrow until tomorrow comes. For now… it's just you and me.

You and me…

I was born and raised in Joliet, IL. I wrote my first story in the 3rd grade and fell in love with creating my own world. But throughout the years I have lacked the discipline to actually sit down and write. Even with a minor in Creative Writing (which should have been my major).
I have been a avid romance novel reader since Jr. High and have read hundreds. I have lived in Chicago, Japan, California and now reside in Arizona. And I wanted nothing more than to combine my love of romance, writing and traveling and put them in a book.
So one day out of the blue while in the middle of reading another book, the story that I had started months ago kept bombarding my every thought. Until I couldn't even continue to read the book I was in the middle of. I put down my Nook and picked up my laptop and about fifteen days later, I had finished my first draft of my manuscript. It was the most exhilarating moment of my life. To know that I finally did it. That I finally finished something that I had started. And now I'm and AUTHOR and PUBLISHER! I never would have thought that was possible three months ago. I just hope that everyone that picks up any of the books I write from here on out, enjoy them as much as I did writing them.

Love can win

Rhian is traveling to fulfill a dream. She had no idea on her last night in the city of light that she would find her forever. Blaise was on riot patrol because of a racial situation similar to much happening here. Rhian bumps into a wall that is Blaise. Something happens and they know something has immensely changed. Rhian does something bold and Blaise is right there. Their chance encounter is hot. I love this story and I am sure you will. Caution..keep a cold glass of water close by.

Taking a chance😘💘💞.

One night is all it took for Rhian and Blaise to fall in love❤️. This was a steamy short romance from one of my fave authors.

Rhian’s whirlwind trip after riding herself of dead weight and negativty was coming to an end but she was determined to continue living her best life one day at a time, exploring all that was offered😊. Blaise became a cop because of a man who impacted him in his teens and wanted to do the same with his life. Sadly he didn’t expect to be partnered with a racist cop😣. When Rhian stumbles down the wrong street the stars are aligned as she catches the eyes of Blaise😍. I loved the boldness Blaise has seducing Rhian and happy she was up for the preverbal one night stand😉. Their limited time together was hot and steamy🔥🥵 with Blaise showing her how a real man satisfies a woman and pulling out a sexual side Rhian had never experienced. When insecurities arose things were said in the heat of the moment and it stung deep😩. After some self reflection they realized what they had was real and something to cherish and bloom🥰🥰🥰

The way Ms. Turner threaded and dealt with the racial issue was done perfectly. I’m also glad with how she chose to have Rhian deal with her weight and not allowing societal norms dictate hers🙌🏾. I need to get on a place to Paris to meet my own Blaise😘.

This was a short story that started off really well for me. The female lead really struck me and I related to her right off. I love the interreflection and struggles of her first out of the gate. Her achievements of self-discovery were awesome to read. I applaud you for that!

In the backdrop of Paris, I really liked how the author gave us a perspective many don't like to show about the City of Love. It's a city with people, crime, challenges, and the whole shebang. Also great idea!

Since I had no expectations and had never read this author's books before, I will say it was all right for me as a reader.

However, I wanted to really like it more but no. Not because the elements were not there but because it wasn't believable to me. In my humble opinion, to me, it felt like a dream sequence all in someone's head and maybe that was the idea. There wasn't enough substance to grab onto for me to believe this story could be real. The so-called connection just didn't work with it being a short story and not having enough depth to get to go where the author was trying to take me.

Anxiety in Paris

Of course I’m a sucker for Twyla Turner’s BBW stories and their road to love. However, the lack of confidence and second guessing is a big buzz kill. I do not know how someone has a panic attack in the middle of getting it on, but if I was in Rhain’s shoes, I would be like, “baby, we are here…come get this FUPA and all honey!” I’m so glad Blaise was not afraid to call BS on the reason why Rhain couldn’t stay, which in the end, I’m glad she made the right decision. I certainly like Muse better, which this book reminds me of an updated version of it. Read and enjoy both!

Chance Encounter

Rhian was a woman starting her life over after dropping pounds and dead weight. Paris is the place she decides to start to "Live Her Best Life"!! Blaise is a cop who wants more out of life than what he has with his racist partner. Rhian pops down a street at the wrong/right time. A chance encounter happens and plans are made. I love how Blaise is brutally honest with Rhian and his words, feelings and actions help her open up. Let the fun begin. Truths are told, feelings are hurt and decisions are made. Love the ending!!

Amazing!

The connection and profound truth in their meeting. The loving yourself and honoring it even in fear. The truth in love has no specific timeline. Think, we fall in love with an animal immediately. Who says it can't happen with another person. The conflict and racial strife in this adds to the dynamic of change needed is sometimes the catalyst for great change. Not just in ourselves or a big way per se, but to start the ball rolling to our truth. This was smoking hot in the loving department. Just outstanding writing and storytelling.

Wow!

This is my first novel by this author. It was very very good. I enjoyed both characters. Their descriptions were vivid enough for me to see them. Blaise was written so clearly that I could here him when he was speaking to Rhian. Just listening to Blaise tell Rhian what he wanted to do to her was making me break out in a sweat. The intimate scenes were hotter than a two dollar pistol!! I was almost in tears at the fight they had. I’m going to find another book by this author to read.

Clutching my pearls 🔥🥵

This book had me clutching my imaginary pearls. Lol This was such a great book with a unique storyline, and I loved every bit of it. This is the first book I've read where the main character was over 400 and had significant weight loss. Blaise was so patient and loving with her. I loved that.

I love that this author doesn't write depressing plus-size girl romance stories. That's why she will forever be one of my favorite authors. I can't wait for her next release!

Love Despite Insecurities

I actually really liked this little novella. It hits on that insecurity that plus size girls have that because of their weight they have to settle for bottom tier men and that the insecurity can continue even after losing the weight. Blaise was that fire she needed to truly step out of her mind and into reality and live life for herself and not for her fears. Truly love that she got a happily ever after. Also depicts that love at first sight is something real.

Novella
Plus-size black FMC
Handsome (model-esque) French cop MMC
Location: Paris
He falls first (kind of)
One-night stand
Happy ending

Check triggers. One of my least favorite things when reading this was words such as “lotus”, “honey”, “dew” to describe the downtown or what’s happening from pound town and especially “lotus”, that’s why the rating is not higher.
Racism and injustice against black and brown people in Paris really relates the story to what’s been happening in America, especially in terms of police brutality.

Don't Be Afraid To Try

Rhian had just gotten out of a pity relationship with a man that really didn't appreciate her. She decides to take a trip away from it all. After losing over four hundred pounds, more than half was her ex, lol. She finds herself in Paris. Traveling to a country where you don't speak the language, can be scary. She ends up running into the police and protesters. Taking a chance, she drops her scarf in front of one of the officers and she gets what she didn't bargain for, Blaise, a sexy police officer.

What can I say about this book?

Twyla Turner is always a 1 click author for me . I read this book in 1 day! OMG, Blaise and Rhian had a whirlwind encounter that made me believe there is still romance and genuine love at first sight in the world, no matter how jaded we have become. I put this right up there with another of Ms Turner’s work “The Muse” ( which is one of my favourite books). 5 stars.

I laughed and cried

This story touched me so much. I empathised with Rhian's weight struggle, lack of confidence and feeling undeserving of love. Blaise was such a tender and sincere soul that it was easy to root for him to get his girl. The racism and police brutally issues were tackled with honest dialogue and a view from someone afraid to rock the boat. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella - thanks Twyla!!

Twyla did it again! Beautifully written love story

I was captured in the world of Blaise and Rhian. I love them, they are meant to be more than this novella!
This book; you will not be able to put down it's addictive in the way that you become greedy for more, the more you read.
I loved the 'Fight' chapters where Twyla gives you both points of view, very clever and different....brilliant read as always!

I think we all wish in that moment when our eye met that we’d done something more then look away and get on with our lives. In One night in Paris, Rhian decides she’s gonna take that chance and live life by not letting opportunities pass her by any longer. Well written and set amongst the backdrop of French protests it’s a story with a few messages about living your life, following your dreams, taking risks and not being afraid. 4.0 ⭐️

Steamy body-positive HEA

Ma’am…just wow...

I loved the way Ms. Turner kept it 100 about not only the challenges that come with weight and self esteem but also the issues that face the Black and Brown communities in regards to law enforcement.

This novella had just enough spice to make you start looking at Hopper for the next available flight while keeping you grounded in real life issues.

It was well done and I’d love to see a continuation of their story.

Like the script for your favorite romance movie

This is not just a simple romance. It also addresses institutional racism in the police force and lookism. The author wonderfully balances all 3. The only part I did not like was their breakup. I know it is part of the formula but was it really necessary?

Amazing book!

Rhian is me. Although I'm not her exact measurements, her emotions were real. The police brutality felt real. I was disgusted and angry. When Rhian and Blaise got together, I gave a standing ovation. Lol when Rhian left, I understood but still wanted to kick her butt😮‍💨🤣. This was a good book by an amazing author. Thank you Twyla! I love it!

3🔥

🎭Tropes: interracial (bwwm) plus size fmc.

🚨TW: racial injustice.

decent relatively short read, appreciated the fact that while it was fast paced, it didn't feel insta-lovey & it was a complete story surrounding real life issues, characters felt believable. One thing that irked me tho was , that just felt str8 up irresponsible.
